Save the environment

My entry for Blog Action Day 2007. Which was a while ago, yes. But I still love it, and I hate myspace so it' s coming here. Enjoy.
Today, is Blog Action Day. The real details could be found at say, http://blogactionday.org if you wanted. I just stumbled on the site and decided to write a blog for this years theme. Had something to do with saving the environment... Well here's my views anyways:

Anyways this is a hard topic for me. I'm a nerd after all. Right? Maybe... that's still in question. But the point is, when have I ever seen the environment? All I do is spend my days in front of my computer; probably, the closest thing I've had to a girlfriend in my whole life. But after some quick googling: I remembered I actually HAVE been outside, and managed to find reference to http://geocites.com/kimberley_scouts a website I designed a few years ago while in scouts. Damn. My cover's blown.

Okay sure, I'm not a perfect nerd. Maybe I have been outside, probably quite frequently. I'm sure the best feeling in the world is looking down from the top of a mountain and knowing that you made it! And of course, pulling out your laptop to send an email to all your friends telling them all about it. It's the coolest thing, when you're miles and miles and miles from the nearest town or city or source of light or sound or energy, excluding: my laptop, gps, mp3 player, a couple flashlights, etc. But for me, it's just being out there. They are the days when I feel completely at peace with myself. When it's just me, and the *cough* environment (I'm on topic, honest!), and a few friends.

I mean sure there is always that overriding possibility to be connected to the whole wide world; but sometimes, you just have to disconnect, yank out the power cord and rely on extended battery packs to see you through. And then, when the stars are out, the campfire is warm and the marshmellows are all nice and toasty, maybe you'll give that CPU a rest and push the fabled standby button. Just for that moment, step out into what people call the great outdoors, and realize just how great it is. And for that passing minute, the world stands still. Things become simpler. It is no longer the intricities of tiny bits and bytes and nibbles. A world where there's no such thing as a operating system, and trials don't expire in 30 days but instead last a lifetime. Where memory isn't limited by selfish hard disks, and ecentric RAM but rather your experiences; and of course, the quality of your digital camera.

Now I'm sure somebody out there could say this isn't really what Blog Action Day is all about but to me, this is what it's about. It's about knowing what is really out there in the world. Our enviroment is the most amazing thing. There are lots of ways people can enjoy the environment. Even for me, there's been days I'll just drive and drive and drive, 'What's over that mountain?' (Driving is of course bad for the environment, but let's not get offtopic eh? ) For some of us it could just be seeing our flowers bloom, and taking a stroll through your garden. Or simply watching a vivid sunset from a 18th story balcony. But the moral is: the world is beautiful and we're all a part of it. It's also important that we take care of our planet, conserve energy and produce as few emitions as possible, but I think if people took time to love it first, the rest of the pieces would fall quickly into place.

Well, enough with saving the world:
