Halloween header and logo

We've updated the front page for halloween! You might also notice the new darker raven, he's the winter raven, and should visible on the site about half the year
Also some bugfixes and changes, particular with the quick-comment feature to make it hover over poem content less.
Enjoy!

This image is from a prison cemetary in the early 1900s. Most prisoners were buried with no tombstones, so these crosses were added years later... where they thought the bodies were. But what if they'd gotten up and started wandering the land, searching for children to scare?

There was a contest recently for headers. There were some decent halloween submissions, but I ended up making one myself instead. I'm going to open the contest to some more submissions... perhaps christmas, thanksgiving, or other fun
themes could be a good idea!

Happy poetry writing!

The quick comment on SW is on the right of the page, but in the way. It can't be moved over like the other one could, and it can't be fixed except to hide it.

I think it's a great header since Halloween comes from the European traditions of "spirit night" where we have a chance to commune with the spirits. I find it fitting, Kevin. Interesting tidbit about it being markers for unknown prisoner graves - even eerier.

Looks exactly like the field my Great Uncle is buried in.. as a WW2 digger! Prison cemetary? Looks more like a soldiers graveyard. Bad taste.

Eeek I thought it was a header for Rememberance Day

If people read before they type they would notice that it ISN'T a WWII cemetary. It's a PRISONER cemetary.

I think Kevin should decorate the header as he wants...that includes Christmas, if He wants to put a giant Christmas tree and santa on it he will...

Ooh, I can't wait to get the big christmas tree up there

Seriously, sorry to anyone who is offended by it. Offending you certainly wasn't my intention. I spent a LONG time looking for good graveyard images, and 99% really suck. I was happy with the result of this one, hopefully you can stand it for a week or two out of a year...

myself i love the header but have to admit that before you added the webby side bars i thought it was for Remembrance Day [lol totally skipped halloween in my mind! oops!]

    Otherwise looks great!

Also I agree that for xmas perhaps we could go with a more general "seasons greetings theme" so as not to exclude anyone

keep up the great work kev

I don't see where this new front page fits in with Halloween. No witches, no ghosts, no bats or goblins on it? Honestly Kevin!

For the Christmas one... to spare us all (or at least just me so I won't go Ninja on some) .... maybe a fully denominational mosaic of all the seasonal images from that time would be good? That way, there'd be no crying of "I don't celebrate Christmas, and it's an insult to me to have it there" type thing.

Can't win 'em all, can't have it all, and can't please all. All you can hope to do is piss off the least amount. <- that's my new mantra

There are a lot of pictures of graveyards out there, and I think it would be in your interest to change the picture to normal-looking tombstones, not crosses. When I first saw it, I thought it was some Christian courtyard or something, not a cemetery. So I think you should choose different tombstones to keep it religiously neutral.

I loved the changling face in seasons on AP. And appreciate the added work it must entail. Not so much this one as a Halloween choice though. It's not so befitting of the history story of Samhain . Nor our scary more modernized version of the holiday it's self. Might be a bit too religous based and feels off key on topic. I know, all the world's a critque.Shame on me,but it's only one poet's opinion.Nothing wrong with that one say for,"Memorial Day". Thanks Kev,I know it was more work for you though.

    Hey Kevin,

Not sure if you are taking much feedback about it... I'll chat with you later, though. The webs on the left and right side needed be made more opaque because its blinding. I won't look at the front page more than 5-10 seconds. I also agree with Joyce (Freed by Mercy) with that the crosses are gravestones aren't very Halloweenish... try switching it?

I'll see about some Thanksgiving/Christmas headings for you

I don't like the new header. Regular gravestones would have been okay, or any number of other things, but crosses - I think of dead soldiers and I think of Christianity - not of Halloween.

The webs on the side are nice - web design!
I like the new raven, too.

I have one good thing and one bad thing to say.

Good thing is that I absolutely love the raven. I didn't like the other new one.

Bad thing is what's the point of holding a contest if you're just going to end up making one yourself? That's not very fair to those who worked hard on their entries.

Perhaps he made one himself because he wasn't completely satisfied with his choices, or he needed a statement on another matter.

I adore the winter Raven. The other raven seems like a draft compared to this one. He is a lot more clean and "finished" looking. I'd love to see him year-round.

Definitely like this raven better. It looks more like a raven. The cemetery image is cool. And I think that changing the header in tune to the months/holidays is even cooler than just for the season. More great updates Kevin!
