ALT CODES

Most of the Alt codes that can be used on the site

Sometimes people use odd little symbols in poems or other places. Here's how they make them.

 ALT CODES

1. Press and hold down the ' ALT ' key while typing the number on the number pad on the right-hand side of the keyboard.

2. Release the 'ALT' key

The top row of numbers do not work with the ALT key.

For laptops - If you have the little blue (sometimes green) numbers on your keyboard, then you also have to hold the 'Fn' button in addition to Alt.

(MAC and Linux hints at the bottom of column)

Some of the symbols do not work here. They are represented by a .  The ones with nothing there are blank spaces.

MAC - These do not work on MAC, although I found a site that has some listings for MacOS.

Linux - Press crtl + shift + u and then input the code while still holding down the crtl + shift keys. If this doesn't work, let me know and I'll look for another way.

Thank you for posting this. I'm Afrikaans-speaking and in Afrikaans we have many words with ë, ê, ô, etc. - I make them on my keyboard (perhaps our keyboards here are different, lol), I've noticed that the Alt keys you provide here are different from the ones I use. But this is still very helpful - thanks!

    *nix

It should be noteworthy that "ALT" codes don't work
on Mac or Linux systems; they have their own methods of typing non-keyboard characters.
I know in Gnome (Linux) you can go to the preferences somewhere and set a meta key to get a similar effect as the ALT codes.
I'm not sure about KDE though.
If you're using Linux I'd check out the Ubuntu forums to find out.
If you're using a Mac then I'm not sure, since I don't own a Mac.

        Gnome, KDE

I think the method you mentioned is for Gnome, which can be rebound to functional like the ALT key code.
        KDE is probably different.
If I find anything more specific about KDE and Gnome individually then I'll throw it your way.

FYI, KDE and Gnome are the two most common desktop environments
for Linux and Unix/BSD, similar to Explorer on Windows.
There are other desktop environments but they're not significant enough to mention, except maybe XFCE.

Thanks I checked the net, and that's really the only one I could find for Linux. There's probably a computer based listing of them someplace in Linux.... like Windows has. If you know how to find those, then that could help

Linux users can copy and paste for now, at least. (Hopefully)

For laptops - If you have the little blue numbers on your keyboard, then you also have to hold the 'Fn' button in addition to Alt. Unfortunately, for some laptops, that doesn't work. Once I find out a way for it to work for all, I'll add it.
