In this day and age our privacy and security is becoming more and more at risk to intrusion. For this reason I have up this small column which can be applied not only to AP but to other sites also.
Remember, your account while you feel may not contain anything worth stealing is YOUR property and thus no one else has the right to access it without YOUR knowledge and consent.
To ensure this, always remember the following checklist:
DO:Pick a password that is strong and memorable, the best passwords generally contain both numbers and letters and are scrambled IE: Not your name with a 5 at the end.
DON'T: Give anyone else your password to your account on-line, it is easy for someone to act friendly enough to gain access to your account and then run havoc with it.
DON'T: Never provide your info to an IM or link contained therein requesting it, most sites have backup servers that will always retain information should a server fail. No admin of ANY site will ever contact you to request your details. Any IM of this nature should always be ignored after being reported to the site admins.
DO: Always report any concerning or suspicious activity to admins, remember it may be someone else's account you save as well as your own. Don't pass the information on to any third party as you may be jeopardising their safety too.
Remember: Every site on-line will do it's best to protect your safety and work with you should a compromise ever occur, it's what the site admins are there for as well as the individual policies of a site, but cannot always guarantee your safety on their efforts alone, you must help them help you and above is a few ways to do that.
Happy and safe writings folks,
E.S
