What A Tragedy

An unthinkable event.. or is it?
I really don't know how I came across this page yesterday but I was up until 2am with my husband watching in shock.

I want to introduce to two people, first, Ayat Al-Akhras, an 18 year old Palestinian girl living in Dehaishe camp near Bethlehem. She is 7th of 11 children seven girls and four boys.
Now, Rachel Levy, she a 16 year old Israeli girl living in Jerusalem. She is one of three children the only girl in her family.
Ayat and Rachel never knew each other and never have they even interacted with each other even though they grew up less than four miles apart. One had spent her life locked within the grim confines of the Dehaishe refugee camp outside Bethlehem,t's a half-square-mile of concrete, dust, and poverty--and home to about 12,000 residents who lived in poverty and frustration. The other dwelled in the shadow of a sleek shopping mall filled with cinemas, cafes and boutiques. In their different worlds, the girls were typical teenagers.
It was a typical Friday afternoon in this small supermarket in Jerusalem when Rachel walked in to get a few things for her mother. It just so happened that at that same time Ayat walked toward the store's glass double doors. The teenagers met at the entrance, brushing past each other as the guard reached out to grab the hazel-eyed girl, whose outfit may have aroused suspicion. "Wait!" the guard cried. A split second later, a powerful explosion tore through the supermarket, gutting shelves and sending bodies flying. When the smoke cleared and the screaming stopped, the two teenage girls and the guard lay dead, three more victims of the madness of martyrdom. Since September 2000, 170 Israelis have been killed by more than 60 Palestinian suicide bombers but what is causing all these people to go out and kill themselves? Is there something that we aren't seeing or hearing about?
The girls looked so alike, same skin tone, same dark eyes, almost twin like. What are the mothers going through? While Rachels mother mourns a loss, Ayats mother mourns the same, wishing she had known her daughter was up to something like that.

Anyways Im not here to write about the WHOLE thing.. heres a link to what caused me to write this..

In Iraq they recruit suicide bombers by holding their families hostages- a "die or we'll kill your family" situation... now who is going to side with extremists who send children out to do their murderous dirty work? Sometimes I can't believe the media's portrayal of who the bad guys are...!

It's always a tragedy when people think they have to kill other people. And a double tragedy when it really happens.

If these two families had decided to emigrage to say, Canada or Australia, they might have moved next door to each other and become great friends. Such things do happen.

But, when hatred is taught and preached by anyone, there will be tragedies like this, and the victims are often the very young and the very innocent.

    So very very sad.

Poppy I cried so much watching this video. I felt the anger and sadness in both mothers really. The Israeli mother lost a daughter for no reason.. And the Palestinian mother has to deal with the hardships along with the loss of a daughter on top of everything.. its a sad truth.
