Have you ever been hit by the compressed garbage of fire works? Trust me, it's much more pleasant than the sting of lightning. Maybe you're aware that air near a lightning strike is 50,000 degrees, hotter than the surface of our sun!
I suggest you take to heart these life saving recommendations:
-stay indoors
-away from windows
- away from electrical appliances
-refrian from using home phones
(yes this includes cordless telephones)
-Automobiles can be the safest place during a lightning storm.
-If outside when a storm approaches and you have nowhere to run for safety, find a low spot, crouch down onto the balls of your feet and keep your feet placed together.
(The balls of your feet are the sides you tip toe on)
AVOID being the tallest object, avoid being near tall objects. MAKE SURE you follow these directions when outdoors, limiting your contact with the ground reduces your risk of getting kissed by lightning, thus saving your bum.
If by chance that lightning storm produces a tornado, get out of that car! Unless of course you enjoy being a human football. If in a vehicle, never try to out-drive it. And flying objects are very likely going knock you out if outdoors. Find a nearby ditch or depression and lie flat inside it. Tornado's are a different story and a different column.
