Tutorial: Double Layer Embossing 2

Version 2 of this fun graphic tutorial

In the second version of making a double layered embossing, the steps taken are the exact same but the only difference is that a more softer texture such as silk or satin is used first, then another texture over that before embossing the image- or in this case, a tile background.  However keep in mind what dimensions being used for width and height are key factors. With that, let’s get started shall we?

To start off, open your PSP program until you have a blank screen staring back at you…

Once again, know that any version of Jasc Paint Shop Pro will do

Next, click on the turned down paper OR click open FILE then NEW…

~OR~

Once you’ve done that and your screen has opened the new image window, choose a texture preferably one that is satin or silk (such textures can be located on various graphic sites)

Instead of choosing a random color, the solid color must be not too dark or too light to hold its own with the texture. In other words, they’re going to have to be able to fit well- match well together. Notice that the box by textures is checked in the material properties…

Even though the texture I want isn’t highlighted, notice how my choice is the light blue solid satin…

Notice what solid color I chose to use and the satin texture applied afterwards in Raster 1…

~TO~

Again, to merge, go to LAYERS, then MERGE, and click on MERGE ALL (FLATTEN)

And your Raster will become Image1 by default…this is what it should look like after merging

For the second ‘layer’, simply click on your paint bucket. Move your mouse over to the top right side of your screen on MATERIALS… Watch carefully now!

2.

(Notice how I picked the same solid blue- a lighter version, but the texture is different; repeat for lower material color and texture)

Without having to click the paint bucket again, simply click on IMAGE1 and paint. Make absolutely sure that your blend mode is on NORMAL before painting over the image (one click per small area)

We’re almost done! Hold on!

Next to create the embossing illusion; simply go to your effects- texture effects- blinds

Choose a either a light or slightly dark matching color that either will blend in invisibly or white. The choice is yours varying on the original color(s); Make sure that both boxes for horizontal and light from left/top are checked- width should remain at a low number, however the recommendation number should not exceed 13. Opacity remains at eleven.

Press/Click OK

Congratulations! You’ve just created a double layered embossing

*IMPORTANT HINT*

If you wanted to soften the image up before saving, simply go to Adjust- Softness- Soft Focus. Press/Click Okay once you’re happy with the softness you want…

(Make sure that your box is checked next to ‘INCLUDE SCATTERED LIGHT’

And your final image will be:

but this is an excellent tutorial, the detailed steps and images go a long way especially for those who are visually orientated.

I used to have Adobe but I got rid of it after having not used in over six months- wasted space on the computer

It's much easier and faster to use. Although personally I use GIMP for my graphic works (gotta love open source software)..
