One-Hundred Poems.

A rambling thank-you.
It's been two-and-a-half years, and one-hundred poems. There've been ups, downs, lulls, and in-betweens. There's been rough times and times when I just couldn't write. But here I stand.

When I first joined this site, I was not a poetess, but I wanted to comment on something written by a member.

Later that day, I decided I ought to have at least one piece on my account, so I went for it. How hard could it be to rhyme? And from there, it began. I was hooked. I would sit with a notebook for hours. Just writing. Of everything I wrote, maybe one in four would make it to the site.

But beyond occupying my time, what did poetry do for me?
It became my expression. It became my way of letting things go. It has become my outlet for all things I wish not to contain.

Why write? Why not just throw something across the room and be done?
For one thing, poetry is less messy. But there's more than that. There are many forms of expression one could choose, but how many as constructive as poetry? Poetry causes you to expand your vocabulary and use proper english skills. It forces you to broaden your mind.

But the most important thing I've learned from writing...
The most amazing thing I've found when reading old pieces...
Is who I am. You can learn who you are, and how you evolve with time. Through poetry you learn what your faults are, and that's when you learn how to improve yourself. You learn how to dig deep into yourself to pull forth the strongest of emotions so you can write them with their full accuracy.

I know this has just been my ramblings so far, but I think in order for any thanks to go anywhere, people have to know what you're thanking them FOR.

You were the first person to draw me to this website. Thank you for getting my interest, and egging me on once I started.

Thank you for being my AP auntie, and for being so encouraging. Thank you for showing me by example what beautiful poetry can be.

Thank you very much for the single most important piece of advice I've ever been given, that, in an odd way, taught me how to make my poetry and my life a little better.

There's too many things to list, my brother. Thank you, so, so much for being my inspiration, my light, and my brother.

Many more people are not mentioned here, but to all of you (who know who you are):
THank you.
