Moods!

Below the online list on the right, you'll notice a new menu for 'Your mood is'. You can set your mood as a smiley, and it will show next to your name for your favorites. Your "mood text" will also show below the link to 'View profile' when they hover over your name. We're still testing some things with the latest update, so please be patient with the bugs
We've also made some more additions and fixes to the advanced author page editing features.

Thanks to sharcu for harassing me to finally add moods to allpoetry

Yeah...so it's a little Myspace and a little Facebook...but I think the main idea is this little feature won't make AP anything like Myspace or Facebook...know why? Because there is no crap here I come here for poetry...not to check in on insane drama or whine...not that I do either because I'm a mature adult. I don't exactly see any of that networking drama on AP and I'm sorry for anyone who does...letting your friends know what mood you're in isn't going to destroy the foundation of the website.

if AP were like myspace, everyone would be running around in their underwear... (I'm feel I'm too old for Facebook, sorry, my prejudice!) I think the smiley thing is a nice addition here- it might be a starting point for an interaction which would result in an earth-shakingly profoundly deep piece... (wouldn't that be a change of pace!)

hmmmm all this talk of going away from poetry i think is a load of crap -- i love reading and writing here, but why can't we have fun along the way if you don't like the feature, its simple -- dont use it

but i quite like the idea of the moods as i said before -- and i agree with a comment below -- would be great if we could have a busy or away smiley to add to the list --
    great work as always Kevin

oh as mentioned would be great to keep the motto seperate from this please

    Moody Mottos

Yeah Dude, like I want my motto, like in Latin dude. Seriously I quite liked my motto. It is in fact a motto I chose for myself when I went to college & try & get my head around 21st century computer technology. I nearly stole the RAF's motto.

But I like this one "per angusta ad augusta"

    "through struggle to honours"

I just don't get the 'mood' thing at all.

    one little suggestion

Kevin, can we have two lines on our author's page - one that says "My mood is ....." - Then another line that says "My motto is......."

I think that keeps the integrity and tradition of the motto. I remember when the motto used to show up on each comment! I guess I am becoming a sentimental veteran here too ....

    Happy 4th of July!

Can we have one for when people IM us and stuff like that. Kind of like "Available" and "Away" (with custom messages if it's not too much)?

this almost proves to me that this site is falling away from writing itself and starting to aim at the young and their "myspace generation, etc." isn't this site about writing, despite the mood, and so on ... after over a year i decided to start posting again 'cause of the few talented writers i have become friends with ... i see nothing has changed ... i guess "anything to make money" will soon replace "the art of writing"

damn, this is funny, so now we can see a person online and find out what mood they are in ... hell, enjoy your steak dinner

hmmmm...I'd have to agree that I don't really like that the moods thingie has taken the place of the motto. I liked the motto way better. However, I can't even see my trophies on Opera so it doesn't affect me majorly anyways.

    woot!
    i like it..
but i would prefer it, and perhaps many others, that the motto be kept separate than the "text".. you can have a mood text field rather than clubbing the two together. like facebook does it.. "BlahBlah is...."
I believe that would be better.

don't people's moods change from moment to moment depending on what they are doing here and what poem they are reading/writing? Geez- Kevin - it would be kinda hard to keep up!

Sounds interesting. Seems my favorites don't have any yet so I've yet to see how these look. I think that can be useful to people like me who are a lot on AP but sometimes not really doing much. But just a suggestion, perhaps you should try not to make AP to FaceBook like, 'cause I hate all the apps there and that's where I saw moods before, but moods alone is good. Could we one day have a real-time AP IM?

I'm sorry, I feel like I'm spamming here.

But, I saw first hand how the "mood" looks when a friend of mine had her mood set in my online list...and to be quite honest, I think it looks rather unattractive and if it is possible, I was wondering if there could be an option to turn it off. Or perhaps maybe instead of having the mood by the username in the online list, simply have it showing under the drop down links when you hover over the names, or simply have it showing on their author's pages or something under "My Account" instead.

I really do not like the way it looks.

I appreciate the fact that Kevin is always trying to improve this site as well as the fact that HE LISTENS to people...
That is rare and personally I appreciate it.
I care how people feel on here. I know my poetry evokes my emotion on any given day as I am sure others can testify to.

My only complaint is I am a big doofus and don't see the place where you set it...

What an awesome feature. It kind of reminds me of what facebook has for mood settings. Thanks for always updating this site with cool new features.
I've been a member here since 2003, but didn't really start posting a lot until 2005. I must admit I'm addicted to writing poetry and it's all thanks to this site. I've been here so long, all the time spent writing has made me come up with a style all my own, though I notice since I first started writing the cosmology/philosophy/reincarnation style in 2006, it's starting to catch on on this site, well maybe not the reincarnation and philosophy, but quantum physics sure seems to be catching on. Thanks for making allpoetry such a wonderful place for poets. Keep up the great work.

Personally, I doubt I will be using it, seeing as I already have that on both myspace and facebook, and it seems kind of pointless on here. We have our poetry to tell people how we are feeling, not to mention private messages, etc. I truly don't see a need to turn allpoetry into another blog website.

AllPoetry is a Poetic Community. If it was strickly poetry than there would be no commenting on other people's poetry, no contests, no groups, no forums, nothing.... Is that what you want? Poetry is a lot of times emotions which is why moods is important on here. Personally, I care about my friends I have on here and if they set their mood to sad, I'll stop by and ask them about it and read their poetry to see why

This site use to be rather boring... back in the day Its really been improved since the better since the start and continues to do so. I only use myspace to send messages to a few of my friends that I don't contact all the time. Anyways, I won't say more as we're crowding up Kevin's column But I understand where you are coming from and I hope you understand where I am coming from. Poetry = Emotions, so moods for a poetry site might be a good idea... Guess we'll see.
