Teen Idol 9: Best of the Best [Round Three]

Hey everyone, welcome to round three. Most of you will find this round to be the toughest one out of the competition; whereas some of you may actually be happy to be able to show off your

rhyme skills!

Yup, I am definitely making you guys rhyme this round. I mean, think about it: this is best of the best. If you truly are the best, then you should be able to get through everything: rhyme poems, free verse poems, dark poems, love poems, soda poems, you name it. Overall, you've got to be the best. So here is your challenge:

I am NOT requiring you to do forms. If you do forms, do not give me any form that has a ton of repetitions; those annoy me.

I actually prefer that you stick with a more “free” approach. Try to do internal and end line rhymes; those always impress me. Keep consistent syllable patterns and [decent] meter.

I am not a stickler, but I am also not stupid. If it doesn’t work, I will tell you; and you won’t be happy with your score.

The more work you put into the poem; the better you will do. [Duh, right?] Some of you might actually forget that.

RULES:
1. left alignment
2. monochromatic background [example: this background]
3. Must post the prompt(s) you used & who gave it(them) to you in your notes [prompts will be explained momentarily]
-failure to comply will result in 10 point penalty.

PROMPTS: You will be giving three prompts to someone as you will receive three prompts from someone else. You will choose which prompt(s) [of the three] you want to use. The prompt(s) you use MUST be put in your notes, along with who gave it(them) to you. *You may use more than one prompt, FYI.

[Totally random]

Christina gives prompts to Jen
Jen gives prompts to Ryan
Ryan gives prompts to Chase
Chase gives prompts to Heather
Heather gives prompts to Chandni
Chandni gives prompts to Dani
Dani gives prompts to Lizzy
Lizzy gives prompts Amy
Amy gives prompts to Chelsea
Chelsea gives prompts Diana
Diana gives prompts Caroline
Caroline gives prompts to Lauren
Lauren gives prompts to Christina

*If Helen participates, then I will give her 3 prompts.

**If you don't know these peoples' names, then it's time for you to explore.

*Note: Last round we did not have a trophy round. When it comes to handing out trophies in THAT contest [for this round], I will combine scores from last round and scores for THIS round - and the totals will determine who gets the trophies.

On the other hand, only the scores from this round will be considered when it comes to this round. So even though you came in last place last round, you could actually come in first this round; but you won’t win the gold trophy in the actual contest, because rounds 2 and 3 will be combined when it comes to handing out trophies.

Any questions? Shoot!

Hmm just got started on mine, so maybe it's time for me to ask this... did you mean we should have meter (ie iambic pentameter, trochaic tetrameter, or whatever)? Or can we just have each line around the same syllable number and make it not sound forced?

I would like to point out the fact that meter, rhyme scheme & syllables are kind of impossible when you talk about doing the "free style."
    • True.
What I meant by "free" style was that you wouldn't have to conform to a strict form. What I meant by free was, just do a regular ABAB AABB rhyme scheme kind of thing. I just feel it allows more freedom; a lot more freedom than having to have lines to fit with pointless repetitions and stuff.

BUT if you want to do literally the free style, then you would get full points in those categories. That sounds like it is an advantage - but there's not much of a difference. Free style either works or doesn't work [for me]. I think you could pull it off. But in the other categories I'd probably be tougher due to the free 10's in the consistency categories. I'd make a rational judgment.

      Hopefully that is clearer.

Um. I'm generally uncomfortable with unstructured rhyming in a poem; it either comes or it doesn't, but I'm not good with deliberately putting it there. Can I write you a sonnet, or would that put me at a disadvantage?
