Children and Beginning writers

This is just a short column of advice for beginners and children writers. Just my personal advice mostly.
One of the best ways when beginning is to read other types of poetry. You can search for poems on our site using the drop down menu at the top that says Poetry. You can search by different types, or even start with other kids poetry. It is very convenient and helpful.

My first and biggest advice to beginners is to write from the heart when you feel it. You can never go wrong when it comes from the heart. No poetry is bad or good. It is your personal feelings and art. You can correct your forms, your rhythms and other poetry things, but your feelings are never wrong.

Most poets start out with rhyme, which is not a bad thing, I still rhyme frequently. What the hard thing to learn about rhyme is not to force it, and to let it flow. Don't restrict yourself in expressing, because of rhyme.

Also, if you have questions, or want a good critique or "comment" on your work, just ask a Greeter, or other staff member on the site, they are listed on the left hand side of your page. They can help you and point in the right direction for help you need.
