This is a story I ran with, feel free to critisize by all means.
“Shh, don’t cry my sweet.”

“But why is it so loud Auntie Amel? It hurts my ears!”

“Don’t worry, it’s just thunder. It’ll all be over soon, go back to sleep and you’ll feel better.”

With a groggy nod the young child nuzzled against her aunt’s arm. Tracing the outline of her niece’s jaw, Amelia watched as the young child named Brianna slowly but surely fluttered her eyes into a heavy sleep.

The thunder was indeed loud, Amelia would give Brianna that. They hadn’t had a storm this bad at Morrison’s Manor since Amelia herself was a child. She watched over her young niece for a moment longer to make sure the continuous sounds of thunder weren’t going to wake her from her slumber again, and after seeing that Brianna was sound asleep, Amelia retired to her own bedchambers.

It was dark and she could hear nothing but the sound of rain hitting her glass window next to her bed. Shutting the window more securely, Amelia crawled back into the comfort of her bed sheets where she’d found Brianna hiding just an hour before. The thunder had woken her, but so had her niece’s cries that echoed in the large room. Brianna knew she could always turn to her Auntie Amel, and when the frightening thunder had startled her awake, she knew that her Auntie would be able to ease her fears.

Now that Amelia had indeed soothed her niece’s fears, she could finally retire to the comfort of her own bed, and in time, fall into a deep sleep.

----------------------------------------------------

Amelia woke once again from her sleep, but this time she woke to bright sunshine that crept through the window into her room instead of a young, frightened child. Fluttering her eyes for a moment, to adjust them to the brightness of the day, Amelia stretched and yawned sleepily.

“Ohh why is it morning already?”

Sitting up in her bed, Amelia began to take out her briad. Smoothing out her long, red locks and running her fingers through it, Amelia decided that since they weren’t having anyone special to breakfast that day that she could simply keep her hair down. It wasn’t often that her uncle didn’t have guests over, but today was different – for he was ill and bedridden.

With a flourish Amelia threw off her covers and leaned over the edge of her bed to put on her slippers. She could still feel the cold floor through the thin silk of her slippers, but it didn’t bother Amelia as she moved out of her room and made her way down to the main dining room.

The door stood ajar a little, and without thinking, Amelia pushed her way right in. Quickly she took in the room and realized that something was amiss. Her uncle was not in fact sitting in his usual spot at the head of the table, but instead there was another man there. Amelia stood there for a moment, taking in the sight of him.

His hair was pure black. It was long and tied back loosely with a white ribbon. His eyes were the color of ice blue, and they had a fierce look to them that made Amelia blush as they swept over her and took in her appearance as she took in his.

“Good morning, miss.”

“Oh, good morning. I didn’t know that Uncle had any visitors coming this morning; I should go get dressed.”

Amelia closed her hand tightly around the doorknob as she spoke to the man. It was strange to her that her Uncle had not told her he would be having a visitor over; and now look at her! Amelia was standing here, right in front of this man with her hair down and only wearing her silken nightdress. Even now Amelia could feel the light blush of crimson making it’s way onto her fair cheeks.

As Amelia turned to go the man’s voice stopped her.

“Oh no, Madame, it’s quite alright. If anything I should be the one leaving the room.” He stood up and wiped off his mouth with the napkin that was laid beside his plate before tossing it back down and looking back to Amelia steadily. “I’m not a guest of your Uncle’s, I work here now, and you may call me Marcus.”

I work here now… Amelia gapped at the man as he said that. Why in the world would her Uncle be hiring someone so… so… well Amelia couldn’t place what he was, but it was certainly something she’d never seen before in any of her Uncle’s other employees!

“I take it you are his niece, Amelia?” Marcus asked after an awkward moment of silence that Amelia had failed to take notice.

“Oh, um, yes… will you excuse me, Marcus; I need to get more, uh, properly dressed.” Without waiting for an answer Amelia once again closed her hand around the doorknob and closed the door tightly behind her. She paused there for a moment, catching her breath before turning and running back up to the safety of her room.

-----------------------------------

“But what is his job here, Milli? What could he possibly be doing for Uncle?”

“Oh, I don’t know! Hold still!”

Brianna continued to squirm as Amelia tried to do up her hair in the same fashion she’d done up her own. Amelia had ran into her on the way up to her room, and so she shared with her niece the story of the mornings happenings. Now, dressed in one of her weekend spring dresses (a mix of calico and white lace,) she was busy doing up young Brianna’s hair.

“Well,” Brianna chipped, swinging her legs in a hyper manner, “I think we should go down and find this “Marcus” person, hmm?” As Amelia finished the final touches and pulled out a few faint wisps to frame her young niece’s face, Brianna jumped up from the chair and made her way out of the room with Amelia close behind.
