What makes a poet? Is it fame? Popularity? Skill? Or the ability to entertain and to pull the senses out of people with just a simple organization of words? I have been pondering this question for so long. I think the sad truth is that it is all based on popularity. Skill has little to do with it nowadays. If someone has more friends or more comments that means they are the better poet. Due to this many skilled poets are lost within the ebb of an oubliette. This is message is for those like me. DO NOT STOP WRITING! Show those who have the most comments that you are worth it! Show them that you are just as skilled as they are. I have read many great poems by poets who seem to not be getting the attention they deserve. Why is that? Because people are too busy with others.
I find it sad that many find inspiration, write a poem, post it only to be forgotten over a period of a week or so. The times have not changed. I will not conform to this contest. I will write for myself and make it without others help! I encourage others to do the same.
I ponder what a poet truly is.
