A Tribute to Firemen

Who are these hero’s of whom you speak of?

Tell me how many baskets have they made?

Or homeruns have they hit?

What number one song have they sung?

Or perhaps they have posed a really great pose?

No? Ah, a fighter you say, my, my who have they knocked out?

What? A monster, you must be daft there is no such thing.

Eyes of red ember? Claws tipped with flame? A brute half tamed?

What preposterous nonsense that’s what I say.

You’ve seen this beast? I suppose it breathes fire and flies through the sky.

No, I’ll tell you of this beast, this beast that they fight its breath is as dark as that of night sky, it reaches to heaven to rape the blue sky, it billows out smoke to make suffer and die. With fists of red flame it pounds wood to ash and rips at the timbers till roof is collapse. A feral strong beast, when it is set free devouring all with gluttonous glee. Its burning embrace melts skin like soft wax; a kiss of its lips burns singes the lungs. You’d better believe this monster exists or some day it might just reach out for you.

Oh my what to do if I see this beast

Quite simple my friend just put out a call. Then all through the city you’ll hear a siren, a signal you see to men of courage. They’ll don skins of valor and rush to your aid.

What selflessness these men must surely possess.

Selflessness you say? You haven’t a clue. They rush to your rescue they don’t even know you. Their wives and their children they all leave behind, to guard you against this terrible beast.

Who are these brave souls I wish to meet them. Why haven’t I heard of these fine young men? What is it they're called? I’d sure like to know.

Oh you’ve seen them around they're all over town. They get their name from the beast that they slay, so if ever you need them just shout, Fireman!
