Laughing Through Life

So I'm not sure about this its my college essay, or one of them and I know its not a column but i just really need some critques and stuff.
Once upon a time, in a small town outside Philadelphia, there was a girl. Not a princess in a tower, a damsel in distress, just an everyday, awkward girl. Although there are a million and one other girls, she was loveable and sweet all the same. Her smile and voice weren’t half as amazing as Beyonce Knowles, and yet she still grinned and sang no matter what she did. Her laugh, more of a squeal actually, was more contagious then chicken pox, and her height made her stick out in a crowd. She had the two best friends in the world, her older sister and her dog Owen. This girl obviously wasn’t anything awesome, not a stellar super model nor an egg head genius; just an everyday girl next door.
Once upon a time, this small girl grew up. She was no longer the tallest, but still loved to laugh. She grew gusty, finding ways to surprise people around her and even herself. She no longer wanted to be a girl; she wanted to be THE girl. She longed to be remembered, to make an impact on others, or just simply to make people laugh. Making people laugh was usually the easiest, do to her clumsy and imp-like nature. Once, while on a trip in England with a group of teens very much like herself, the girl decided to take a dare of jumping over a five foot pole. Instead of listening to her inner Jiminy Cricket, she proceeded to run up the pole and try to hurdle it. Placing her hands on the head of the pole, she promptly realized her skirt wasn’t meant for jumping. It snagged the pole, as if to spite the girl. She learned that day that she didn’t like the taste of cement and blood at all. She spent the rest of the trip sporting various Disney Princess and Hello Kitty Band-Aids, and being the butt of almost every joke. A walking accident, that’s what they called her, and she’d blush, not truly minding the negative attention she got because it brought a laugh to the lips everyone around. And that became her goal in life, to make people laugh.
And so the girl lived on, using her silly powers for good, always smiling at passerby and telling ridiculous stories to anyone who listened. In one day, she needed to make at least one person laugh or the day was a failure. The little awkward kid grew into a rambunctious caring girl who wanted to change the world with smiles and laughter. Hopefully she’d live happily ever after and help a few other people do the same.
