I do not understand the way this world works sometimes. It strives for equal rights, yet nothing is that equal. If you think about it, the world is trying to make everyone happy, trying to keep people from being offended. Call me closed minded but i don't think thats possible. How can everyone be happy or unoffended when everyone always gets offended? I mean now especially everything seems to offend everyone and soon people won't be allowed to do anything, only grey clothes will be worn so no colour offends anyone, only monotonal voices, so accents don't offend, limits on everything you want to say because someone always gets offended. Tell me if i'm wrong but thats how the world works, eveyone if always going to be upset by something because the worlds not perfect, people like that need to take it in their stride and just carry on, the world is alreayd filled with bad things and doesn't need more like petty indifferences. People get offended bu every little thing these days, and then everything gets blown out of proportion. I have seen things on the television like racist attacks, and i have noticed that its never classed as racist if its not a person of colour being attacked. I am not a racist, just stating what i have seen. I hate it when people get offended by little things, there is so much hate in the world and not everyone will get along. I don't understand this, simply because that i have noticed there is indifference everywhere, people don't like whats different to them because it isn't something they are used to, so they act against it. I am just ranting because people need to understand not everyone will always be happy, and not every little thing, that people can get offended by can be censored or sorted out, because that just isn't how the world works, and when one thing is sorted, another thing offends, usually something to do with how the previous got sorted, so they cycle would continue. Closing my rant, i shall write the end of an essay i wrote for my English at college - I believe there is no such thing as exact freedom of speech because something is always going to offend somebody else, so not everyone will be happy. Its human nature that people don’t like what is different to them, perhaps because they don’t understand it but in my view everyone can never be open-minded and accept everything, there is much to prejudice in everyone. Therefore freedom of speech is always going to be freedom of speech except you can’t say this, that or that etc.
There isn’t freedom of expression, action or speech because people aren’t accepting and get offended.
This is what I believe.
In the mood to rant, you don't have to read this, i just need to get views down. Sorry if i offend, it is not my aim, i am just saying what i need to get out, if it does offend please comment and tell me why.

Great!
Laura, you are absolutely write. The mere fact of our existence is going to offend some people, so by extention, in the future, some people with political power will be able, legally, to remove from existence those people who offend them. It is a crazy idea that no one should go through life ever being offended, we would be the dullest of beings... actually abrotion is a good example, their existence is offsive, hence.... a most though provoking piece of writing... -
I find this very interesting. Especially after the negative feed back you gave me on my poem titled "To xBeCx". This is contradicting.

I wrote this years ago. People are free to have whatever religion they want, but when you are specifically directing a religion at someone then it is wrong. I never siad anything about your religion being wrong. The negative feedback was because your poem was negative and directing religion. I never said it was wrong for YOU to have that religion.

Just keep on ranting...
it's the only way to express yourself, say what yo mean, and mean what you say...thank god we're all different, it would be a very boring existence if we were all the same, we we're not meant to be the same, life is a game, a mystery, and it's a journey with a purpose, even if we don't know what that purpose is, a lotta people think they know, and they spend thier entire lives killing each other over which one's right and which one's wrong...
just keep on searching hun, answers will come in small doses, that's how it must be, I'll get back to you, as I'm running late for work lol
If you like, please take a look at my poem "The First one to Know", we are here to build one another up and not break down...so keep on ranting, you'll be surprised how many lonely and lost people there are out there who are starving to death for the want of encouraging words, forget about those who resist change, they're scared that's all, they don't wanna hear the truth, you can get crucified for telling it

I agree with you, Laura; it's like political correctness for the closed-minded
The way I see it, everything is always going to offend someone. I live in Ottawa and, as the capital of Canada, it/'s the most liberal city in the whole country; that means that everyone's all uptight about political correctness. Technically, I'm not allowed to say 'Merry Christmas' to customers at my job... but I do anyway, and I'm not even Christian. It's all in the spirit of the season, and if people are offended by the fact that we celebrate our customs and traditions, then this world is in a sadder state of affairs than I thought. I figure, if they want to send the PC-police after me, then so be it.
Seriously; we've bent over backwards to ensure that other cultures are preserved, and in doing so, we've lost our own national identity. Here in Canada, Muslim women can vote wearing hijabs, and Sikhs can wear their kirpans (decorative knives) anywhere, but one mention of the Christian god, and the whole world's in an uproar... Why can't everyone just accept the differences and love each other? -

Thank you very much for the comment, i was feeling very passionate when i wrote this, its a subject that i get ranty about
Evvveryone sees things they dont like and the worlds attitude these days is to cover it up to keep them happy, but then someone else is offended its covered up because this person likes it, so its a two way clash that is just going to cycle, this world is a stupid place lately =(

unfortunately people take issue with things because many times they can't see both sides of the issue... or don't want to. some people are not open minded about things and become bitter or cynical almost to the point of extreemism. then spray that hatred to all corners of the earth. never forgiving nor realising that sometimes they live in glasshouses. or don't see that sometimes to see a view point they have to willing to walk in those shoes that they have judged.

thank you very much for your view. it is a very good point.

So true. I wish I could applaud. Oh, and as for racism, I always wonder about people who claim something is 'racist' just because it's a black person (for example) who is attacked. (1) would it be any worse if it was? Racism is a bad thing, but surely a worse thing is being beaten up whether it's for being black or being old or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time? (2) They noticed the race. Often, I don't notice a lot of these race issues so if I describe someone using a non-racist term describing a stereotype about them that's often just because I think it fits them and I'd do it even if they weren't of that race.
And freedom of speech is important. Without freedom of speech we'd be in a dictatorship, so however bad the comment is I say we argue against it rather than just labelling it. Prejudiced opinions should be easy to 'knock down', for example if someone says 'all women are good cooks' and is given an example of a bad female cook this disproves their argument. Just saying 'sexist pig' won't change his (or her for that matter, as that statement would be more misandronistic in my opinion than misogynistic) opinion.
Hope I've not ranted either.
