A Women's Role: Politics & Women's Rights

This is my opinion based on this column: http://allpoetry.com/column/1704077#
I may be strongly opinionated in my views but I think we all deserve to voice our opinions. Which is why I am not judging anyone ...I'm just being honest.

Reading some of these comments made me sort of ...sick...

When I read how some people believe that a woman SHOULD be a housewife, SHOULD be a babysitter, SHOULD NOT be involved in politics it gives me a horrible pit in my stomach...

Reading such comments make me feel as though we are setting ourselves back decades and decades...

Women(and some men) have worked so hard and sacrificed so much just so we could all have equal rights. They worked so hard for so long just so women can have these rights. It is my belief that if they were here today they would be deeply disappointed...

If you have ever heard the story of Alice Paul you would know just how hard they worked. The movie, "Iron Jawed Angels" is based on the suffragist fight...the fight that Alice Paul and other women fought...

In simple terms, they went through hell. Just so women today could have the chance to vote, the chance to say, "I am just as good as any man!!!"

They had hunger strikes and were arrested. They dedicated their lives to helping future generations of women. They gave up their lives just so women today could have a life of their own. One with a purpose, one filled with honesty, one filled with rights!

Sometimes I can't believe how ignorant people can be.
There was actually a boy in my History class when we were learning about the Suffragists and he said, "why did they care so much? I can't vote and I don't care!"

Why did they care? Why did they care? Just imagine watching men having the opportunities and the freedom while you sit at home... Just imagine having an opinion or a political view and not being able to do a damn thing about it. They wanted to prove that women and men..are just PEOPLE all the same...

Now, I think that if a women wants to be a housewife then good for her. Whatever makes her happy...but don't sit there and say that the home is her place...the world is our place!

On another note, I believe men and women both contribute positively and negatively in politics. I believe that sometimes women can be more sensitive and those emotions might not be good in politics. On the other hand, it is those emotions and that determination that can change the world. I think men and women balance each other out. We need each other. The only way we will truly ever be considered equal is when we stop looking at it as what MEN can do or what WOMEN can do...and start looking at it as what WE AS A WHOLE can do!

Sincerely,
Crystal

Good piece. Remember, not all women are emotional wrecks and not all men aren't emotional In fact I think passion and emotion should be there in all politics otherwise there's no point.
I think women should be housewives and babysitters just like men should be househusbands and babysitters. The thing is is it their choice? We shouldn't tell people what to do in their lives.

I understand that. I said sometimes women can be more emotional. Although, I've met some quite sensitive men. All in all I believe we balance each other out. Thanks for the comment...
