Advertising on Allpoetry

Ever been cheated on? Ever been lied to?
This affects you
I was on allpoetry- adding a poem- when I read the advert on my screen. Now, I'm not a fussy person- I don't for instance mind many sexual encounters/relationships where people are honest and don't go out to hurt one another or mind many kinds of business which don't intend to hurt people.
But- this was different. This fit into both the lying and hurting category. The name of the website was 'illicit encounters'.
As I said before, I don't mind open relationships where all partners involved know about each other or at least that they're not the only one. But this was specifically advertising for people unhappy in their relationships to have 'illicit encounters' with others in their situation.
In case you haven't noticed this is not good.
There are options if you're not happy. If you're not satisfied at all leave them. If you're not happy sexually- like I said discuss an open relationship, and if they don't like it and it really matters that much to you (sex, by the way, is not something to build a relationship on it's just a helpful extra) leave them. If you're not satisfied emotionally- get friends to help you through these times- you don't have to be 'in love' which is a starting relationship type thing which is unlikely to last past the realisation that you're with a human, but if you can't get emotional support/kindness from them- get friends. Oh, and possibly leave them.
It will hurt a lot less in the long run. It will hurt less than them being lied to, them being cheated on behind their back, them being deceived. Even if you are in an open relationship (in which case, why consider it 'illicit') you don't know about the person you're with if you're on a website like this with them. They might not be in an open relationship. They might be cheating on someone with you who is being lied to and deceived.
So, you're a silver/gold member. And you're thinking 'I don't see the ads, it's not my problem'
Wrong.
If you've ever been lied to or cheated on it's your problem. If you're worried that you could be in the future- it's your problem. If you just think that kind of thing is immoral- it's your problem.
I wonder what's happening in these encounters. I've got a feeling it's likely to be sex. But even if it isn't a lot of people (especially women but some men too) are more hurt by secret love affairs than secret sex.
I think allpoetry has a duty to monitor the kind of advertising on the site. Maybe only have poetry adverts (although that tends to encourage them to get fake publishers like poetry.com advertised) or only allpoetry adverts. Or- maybe just don't host things like this which are clearly immoral.
This isn't just about the bronze members who see the ads. It's about everyone.

Yeah, I agree too. Anyone can see the ads, from small children to anyone. Yes, I think it does effect everyone. For people who say "It's not my problem," they are being insensitive and selfish.

I haven't ever really been in a relationship and I understand this all too well.

Yes, I think allpoetry should do their best to protect their members. If we can't post certain things, or other poets have the right to complain about a poem we wrote, why can't we complain about ads that could mentally, emotionally, or even sexually hurt somebody?

    It's just wrong.

I completely agree with you. I’ve seen some advertisements that appeared on Allpoetry pages, that I wasn’t real happy with viewing. I also think the advertisements shown should be monitored. This was a very well written column with a valid concern.
