They truly stole the thunder they've achieved, from
the Goths, a hip, conform-to-non-conformism teen group, which didn't always advocate cutting, attention whoring, or any of the other self destructive, and often annoying things, which the Emos now do, as an independent teen FAD group. Where exactly, and when exactly, Goths, went from Rockers, to Emotional-Self-Outcasts, is beyond yours truly but, it was a road this author would not travel.
While I do write dark, and seemingly emotional things, you may well notice, that they're always full
of delicious rage... which was, at one time, Goths's true
motives. Parents, I implore you... DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO BECOME EMO! ... beat it out of him/her.. if you've got to.. have a priest preform an exorcism,
do you really want, such a generation, or RASH, OVEREMOTIONAL, ATTENTION STARVED NUT BALLS, controlling
your pension, social security, and other matters, when you're to old to do so yourself?.....
Emos never really want to commit suicide, they just want attention, it's a basic human need, that is magnified in their minds... it's a mental disease, that you can prevent!.. friends ..don't let friends,..drive Emo..... REGARDLESS.. thousands of kids a year are dying, by supposed suicide... really, in their Emo state of mind, they're STUPIDER than they'd normally be, and therefore, sometimes, go too far with it by accident. The results are broken families, guilty parents... staying up night after night, wondering what they could have done differently for their kid, when really, their kid was just a faggy little Emo, who thought it would be cool, to show off his scars the next day, that he figured would be gone by next week,
so he could make a new design....
There are millions of Emos, stuck as Emos out there, and after a while, they become predators, because, when someone who isn't Emo, recognizes an Emo,
there is an adverse reaction, only Emos really like Emos, besides those who feel sorry for the poor emoy retards... but anyhow...these Emo-predators, seek out victims, who are weak, and unpopular, and take them under that razor-sliced wing, to show them that within the Emo community, they can convince unwitting peoples,
such as any good Christian person, into doing all sort of things for them.
Be aware people, the Emo populace is going to overtake all of the popular teen fads soon... BLAME THE MEDIA... Hollywood is advocating all of this! In closing, I'd like to state, that anyone with a gold, or silver account, who agreed with what they read should message me, so that we may start a group, to combat the growing Emo menace to society...
Emos,.... they're a group of young teens, who stole their look from Goths, and a bit from Michael Jackson it would seem... or MC Hammer... however..their style is not the subject of this column. They are growing in number, by telling people that cutting is addictive, and that the attention is better than anything else.... as this author can quote directly.

I have to say i agree mostly with Spirit. I'm not emo, but i will write some "emo" poetry because that's just what comes up. I am Gothic and it pisses me off when I'm called emo for wearing all black with a strip of red around my waist. I agree that there are whinney little Emo kids out there who are just emo for the attention, But there are also the emo kids who don't show everyone the scars they made the night before while their father was hitting around their mother. It doesnt matter what you look like, whether your a teeny bopper or emo or plastic or even goth, we're still teenagers and we still have problems, some more scary than others. Yes some little emo's will think that everything is going to die because they lost their bf/gf of one week but there are still some emo's who will try and shout out for help when they truly do need it, and maybe somethings like this will keep them quiet and thinking that what they have to say (and whats going on in their life) isn't important enough to bother anyone with and so will keep quiet.
Sorry if that didn't make sense but it was my very random rant..even if it is very indecisive.

I don't consider those people to be emo, emos are those who use negative emotion as a trend, those who actually feel the emotions, and do not show them, hjide the scarrs, as you put it, are what i consider goth, whether they dress that way or not, they have the heart of a goth within,, and they strive for better than what they have, but sometimes, they are just stuck... it can be very confusing and painful.... -

ahh. Ok then. Thanks for clearing that up a bit. But i am curious as to what you mean by "they have the heart of a goth within" Although this may be very superficial of me the gothic style is mostly a style, I've never really thought of the gothic frame of mind. What would one consider the gothic frame of mind to be?
(Again- sorry if I'm annoying you. I'm really not trying to do that).

that colomn is hilarious and has a great point also I realy hate emos I sometimes see pictures or movies portraying goths as they once were a proud warrior race and I see what they have been reduced to and it saddens me very deaply thanks for writing a colomn bringing tis issue to light

I must say, in many ways i do agree with you. The only thing i have to say is that yes, self harm CAN be come an addiction. BUT there are many people out there who suffer this addiction for countless reasons OTHER than attention. In fact, many people who do have this problem are terrified of anyone finding out. Attention is the last thing they want. But because the "Emo Kids" are all making it into something like a cheap fad, no one actually takes it as a serious PROBLEM anymore. A problem that does ruin and yes, end lives. So many people assume now that someone is self-harming just to get attention, that they don't consider the possibility that some might need actual medical HELP. And so, the whole Emo culture is a threat to society. The secretive and dangerous lifestyle of an actual Pain Addict. This needs to be taken seriously. It is NOT a fad, it is NOT a way of squeezing more allowance money out of parents, and it is NOT something to be casually experimenting in. People who need help, Need help. they do not need a bunch of whiny attention seekers making the whole thing look like a phase you can grow out of. Sorry about the rant. just needed to be said.

YOu are absolutely right, spirit! this is what I'm getting at..the emos are taking the attention away from the fact that there are people with real problems, bad things are REALLY HAPPENING in this world, and no one's doing anything about it because they are paying attention to the obvious attention seekers!
