the system errs
November 17 I have put in 72 comments and was leading the comments tally...all of a sudden the sytem has reduced the tally to 14 and put another poet with 17 ahead of me .can you please explain what is hppening

I really like this feature. I've been winning Silver for three weeks now and intending to keep at it, even though it's exhusting to read and give useful comments on many poems, it's fun.
I just have a suggestion to improve this feature is to keep it for free members only because it's only fair and useful. If a member who purchased a membership gets the reward then it will not be of any use to them. Maybe put them as top commentor but not a winner.
I was wondering if this could make things better.

I am happy I can't purchase my membership due to country issues or else I'd be too lazy to give comments. lol

At the top it says you can't win 'that place award again for 1 week'. Does that mean you can come first one day then second the next and still receive it? Or am I confusing what you have said?

  Right, in that you can win both gold and silver once each in a 1 week period... Otherwise it'll send you a 'sorry, you already won' message...

I think this is a good way to keep people active. I just hope people are putting well thought of comments instead of just commenting to win.

I didn't know about this link, thank you for sending it to me... What I saw several weeks ago that led me to believe I won a week's gold membership as top commentator of the day, was a message posted on the bottom of my screen when I logged it. It may have been one day in the week before, or one day a week after August 6th, but I saw my name on the bottom of my screen, sent by AP as a system's message, saying I had the top comments of the day. But, I see how that may be a number changing all through the day, until it is finally, formally posted here (on this link's page) as the final results are tallied... My error, sorry for the inconvenience. Anyway, I went all through my messages to see where I had copied and pasted that info, and sent the message to you, with a question of when I would get my free week's gold, but apparently AP messages aren't kept that long. My messages only go back to about Aug 16th or something like that (the three weeks time-frame you've set)... Thanks again, Cyn

  I agree, I do think that site staff should not be eligible to win these as they already have a membership. But then again, most likey they are not commenting to win anyway so it is just a bonus like it is for everyone else.

    Actually, we don't. I've been a greeter for nearly a year, and I pay for my membership, just like any other gold- or silver-member here. I don't comment to win anything, though I have won before; that said, I was a member of the site for nearly 3 years before I became a greeter, and I comment because I like to give other people feedback on their work, the same way I did before.
    
    Hope that clears up any misconceptions that you, or anyone else, may have.

  From what I've seen they are mainly generic/praise comments. Don't say anything at all. And you get awarded for such comments.

  My View on Comments
  I was under the impression that the idea of comments were in fact two fold. Firstly to help the writter of the poem to improve by reducing their mistakes and Secondly, to encourage the writer to continue to write more and if possible, better poetry.
  Those who comment on poem in order to win something, are in my opinion, just selfish and I would not take their comments too seriously as they are mostly interested in winning a contest, not in helping others.
  I would rather be known as a person that writes good, honest and fair comments that will or can help the poet, rather that as the winner of a contest.
  If I have hurt anyone's feelings I am sorry. But I believe what I believe.

    I won today 01/29/09 and i never knew that I could win anything from comments. But now that i know, i do feel that a reward for being active on the site is a good thing.
