This is a course where we will explore the music of the words we assemble into poems. While we will follow the guidance of X.J. Kennedy's excellent Literature text book, the emphasis here is on experimentation and playing with sound.
This course covers:
- Euphony, Cacophony, & Onomatopoeia (nice noise vs. nice and noisy)
- Alliteration, Assonance, and Consonance (similarity of sound)
- Exact Rhyme (your basic rhymes that rhyme)
- Slant Rhyme & Eye Rhyme (rhymes that kinda sorta rhyme)
- Rhyme Scheme (rhyming patterns)
The emphasis is on having fun and writing poetry. I generally grade homework on Sunday mornings, due to a rather full schedule. Feel free to play with words while you're waiting for me to reply. If you submit homework regularly, you should complete this course in about six weeks.
Ready? Let's get started.
Taught by Epistomolus.
