Class : Art of Refrains Six Rhyming Poetry Forms with Refrains

New School LogoThere are many forms of poetry that rely on a refrain scheme to create a repetitive, lyrical quality. Six commonly used refrain forms are: Kyrielle, Quatern, Villanelle, Pantoum, Rondeau and Triolet.

As we cover each of these forms, you’ll become acquainted with different ways in which a refrain can be applied to the scheme of a poem. Each of these forms delivers refrains in a different manner. By the end of this class, you should be familiar with these forms, and able to apply refrain techniques to your own poetic styles.
