CathedralheatShow poetry

I'm a 23 year old Senior at the University of Memphis studying theatre performance. I've been writing since...well, if you want to call what I did at 16 writing then for about 5 years now.  Lately I haven't been writing much besides when I sit down and just type out what's in my head so most of the things i've posted as of right now are recent enough that they show my progression but aren't all that new.

One might think I was a tad crazy reading my writings...but I think everyone is a little mad and I try to tap into that so that other people can say "wow other people are insane too!".  I think a lot of people are too caught up in figuring out what the poet meant by writing the poem and I think the trick is to find something that is meaningful to you and create your own interpretation...I write about things that are so personal to me and I don't think anyone will understand what the hell I"m talking about but then I realize poetry is universal and everyone can get something out of it even if it's not what I was writing about. That's what's wonderful to me.

As for critiquing, I don't think anyone here is going to benefit from the same ole "This is the best poem I've ever read" (Which really means "I read yours, now please tell me mine is great too" ...I think a lot of poets (myself included) are too closed minded to what other people have to say.

Best quote ever:  "love poems are beyond criticism as long as they stay between lovers" ~steve young, senior editor, POETRY magazine.

Umm...hope you read and come back. The end.

Edit: My goal for the summer is to compile my first collection of new and some older works with a central theme. It will be called "The Youniverse" as of now.  Hopefully I can use Allpoetry as a testing ground for the new poems because I don't trust them quite yet so I need other people's opinions to help me with the process.  So your voice is badly needed! Thank you!

Thanks for your comments on my MADAFAKA, this was a satire written to comply with that contest's rules, not my true viewpoint. More like a satire on those that wonder these things.
Poking fun at the Jerry Seinfeld style of stand-up.

Thank you again for chastising me, there is still hope for the world when people take offense to what I wrote, I was begining to worry because so many were agreeing with those views.
You have restored my faith in people! Thank You"
