a thought on multiple postings

If a favorite posts over 20 posts in one night-- is there anyway to show just one of the poet's post on our home page? Excluding this poet is not an option but I find that I lose almost all my other favorite's notifications because of this poet's enthusiastic posting.

I thought this concern was brought about a year or so ago, and assumed it was remedied. I always only see one poem per person.

Like Erik, I always only see one poem per person, even though, like you, I have some very enthusiastic writers on my favourites' list. Usually the newest poem replaces the last...

Right. I was thinking maybe it's a user defined setting, but I couldn't find anything.

no.. when i awoke this morning my entire newest by favorites was taken by one poet. This has happened a few other times in the past couple months. I do remember when this was talked about last year also--- i wonder what happened.

I just counted and of the 40 things listed after I open my recently listed poems on the home page-- 27 are by the same person--- which just knocked some really good poetry by other poets right off the page.

I know of someone who does that, too. I felt bad about taking him off my friends list but what else could I have done?

well it is my hope that by posting the concern here--- we can get it fixed with one post per poet .. taking this person off my list is simply not an option

I can sympathize. I'd like to add said person back to my list, myself.

I have the same problem, as well - multiple postings showing by one author instead of only the most recent. I'd thought that it had been fixed, too. I know it's frustrating; I don't have a lot of time to go to everyone's pages looking for new poems - nor should we have to. And...I'm one of those people who does multiple postings, but not daily - usually. Sometimes I get overly inspired, though...and I don't spend as much time online as I used to, so sometimes I'm posting things written in previous days. Thanks for bringing this to Kevin's attention, Mary. I hope a solution can be found.

Let's hope if we keep this at the top of the chain it might get some notice.

It does work that way for the actual front page. But not for the 'new by favorites' page. What would you do if you really wanted to see all the poems, then? Then we need a toggle, which adds yet another link to our already overcomplicated interface

He's saying that when you are on
        http://allpoetry.com/home
you should only see one poem per favorite.
Also, it seems to be interpreting your post as saying that you are requesting to only see one per poet when viewing
        http://allpoetry.com/favorite/recent/Cat

At least, that's what I think he's saying. It sounds like he misinterpreted your post, and that you have a glitch.

Have you tried the typical "clear all cookies, history..." solution?

          thank you.

          So here's the thing:
The morning I signed on to the 27 posts

my home page had only 2 poems listed one by my prolific friend and one by one other--- when i opened my favorite/ recent page i had 27 by my prolific friend -- etc..

      Kevin,

Understand that I do not understand an ounce of computer programming. But it seems if the issue is space or complication-- you might take a poll to see if anyone scrolls to featured poetry, featured columns or for that matter new contests. I know i never do and could do without all three... Would that give more space to allow us to view the latest offerings of our favorites? Or as another option you could leave everything as is but extend the recent by favorite's offerings to two pages.

      • He's saying he could add a feature onto everyone's favorite page where you could see poems posted per person per day by clicking on a tab with their name on it, I think but that option would make this already complicated website more complicated.

Some people have replied to this post indicating that they are only seeing one new post from each writer on their favorites' list. Cat and I, among others, are seeing multiple postings by only a few authors, which knocks everyone else off the "newest by favorites" list.

Instead of adding a "toggle", would it be feasible to put a number or something indicating new poems by their names? For example: "Cat: (new posts) - 4 or "Cat: (posts this week) - 6" or something along those lines?

What's happening is that when someone does multiple posts in a single day (and yes, I am a "culprit"), it doesn't roll over to the newest poem for that specific author - it shows all of their new poems, so we are not seeing everyone on the list; we are only seeing the same few names with many posts. Which ultimately means that we have to go to the individual author's pages of our favorites to make sure we're not missing anyone's new poems.

I know, from my own experience, that when I do multiple posts in a single day, the next day someone has removed me from their favorites list, assumably for that very reason. Sometimes they add me back, sometimes not.

I understand these things take time to resolve, but anything that makes the site quicker and easier to navigate is a good thing for all.

      Thank you.

  • which is why I usually ignore the front page and go 'bout my own business.

As of this moment, there are 10 new posts by the same author showing on my "newest by favorites" list. And she's probably not done yet, either. I really don't want to have to delete her again just to able to see new poems from my other favorite authors. Is there any resolve to this issue?

I only get the latest from favs and only one per. If I click on the "more" button, then I get a list of all the posts in order of published time and date. Front page, though? Just one per.
