what do you think of linux xD
-
if I knew what it was, I would tell you.
I shall google it -
I went to the homepage and everything. But still, I do not know what this 'Linux' is
-
well i use it its an operating system its open source meaning its free
-
-
righteo...well it sounds good I guess
-
-
I HATE linux!
-
-
whys that
-
-
My school uses linux because the grant we go for the computers requires it. It's so complicated to save to our xdrives. Files are often lost. It's annoying.
-
-
-
Linux is only worthy because it makes a good gaming server.
Do yourself a favor and download Windows XP. I think Linux supports BitTorrent. -
-
i have windows on tripple boot and mac osx linus isnt that bad either bcus there is actualy a support system for it now
-
ofcourse linux supports bittorrent are you in the stone age and no thank you if i had a pirated version of xp theres no patches for me im completely vulnerable to everyone so how about no
-
-
Stone age?
I'm sorry, have you ever taken any classes regarding computers besides the required computer applications in school?
Read a Cisco curriculum, pass it, get second in networking at state level, and tell me that I'm wrong.
Linux is not as efficient as Windows, it cannot be used in the workplace, and it is only good for nerds who thinks it's cool to triple boot their computers: there is no reason.
I'm not trashing you or anything, but it's difficult for me to take you as an intelligent person when you spelled a total of maybe 10 words right out of your two posts. -
-
i do have dislexia its ok linux is efficient as windows most web servers are apache these days but i do see your point regarding work places its not ready enough for the work place i dnt think im cool for tripple booting my computers
-
-
I apologize. I was not trying to insult you, dear sir.
-
-
i know you werent
-
-
-
i am doing computer engineering courses and im doing bachelor in computing
-
-
Well if you are going to be some sort of professional, please, for your sake, take some more English courses.
-
-
-
Do you need some ice for that burn?
-
-
Nah, his best bet would be to find a friend that has it and burn a copy of it. If that doesn't work (probably won't), he could borrow it long enough to install it and download all the updates for it, etc. etc.
I love my copy of XP Home; I've had the damn thing for a few years now and have probably used it about a dozen times for various machines. Never had a problem installing it. -
-
for one i am a guy look at my profile i just have long hair
lol so many ppl think i look like a girl
-
-
Nah, just a mistype on my part. I'll fix it.
-
-
I know. I have XP MCE and I love it. Streaming movies to my Xbox to watch on my TV is the best thing I've done with it so far.
And I learned everything I know about computers on XP, so it's hard to change. -
-
I just wish that my copy of XP Professional 64-bit had worked better. I got so many BSODs that I had to switch back to XP Home. But, when it worked right, it was awesome because it handled RAM so much more efficiently. I mean, I've got four gigs to play with, and the 64-bit version just seemed to glide along when it cooperated. Home is alright, but isn't as efficient. And I still get a few BSODs now and then.
-
-
windows vista is a DRM joke to me
but xp 64bit was quite revolutionary but still quite floored -
Four gigs of RAM? Oh gosh.
I've only been on a computer that had two maximum, and I just recently got one gig for my laptop.
I tried out Vista 64-bit and there was no real difference that I could tell. Just that I had to look harder for 64-bit programs that utilized it. -
-
vista is a joke to me i got ubuntu it has all the same effectsd as vista and you can haver them at 512 with no trouble booting at all
also vista are trying to bring DRM to micro$oft and also there trying very hard to make there hardware proprietary -
-
Vista is a joke, you are correct.
I formatted my hard drive because I couldn't stand it after only two weeks of it on there. -
-
good boy
-
-
Vista's not all bad if you've got the right hardware. The community college I go to has their computer labs in their Center for Applied Learning and Technology building set up with Vista Enterprise because they're all networked, and it works great.
-
-
oh yes it is
vista has not got good factory settings the security is overrated joke
the interface has many errors
it comes with bloatware like osx but osx knows how to manage bloatware -
-
My experiences with Vista have been positive ones. So, unless I have a rough time with it in the future, I'll continue to think Vista's just fine.
-
-
-
-
Yep
. When I was searching around for parts on Newegg back in January/February of this year, I decided I wanted lots of memory so it wouldn't take as long to load things and whatnot. I wound up with the four gigs for a great price at the time (roughly $90), a dual-core CPU, XP 64-bit, etc.
It was great because whenever I'd play Hellgate and tab out of it, it would tab out of it instantly thanks to XP 64-bit handling the process in RAM so much more efficiently. XP Home lags for a few seconds first. -
-
I'm getting a new laptop in the spring.
As soon as I get it I am formatting the hard drive and installing XP MCE on it.
One perk out of being in the Cisco Networking Academy, is that you get free Windows products
.
If you ever need a key or something, let me know. I've got about 30 saved on my computer in the class. -
-
Honestly? I'm thinking I should install XP MCE back on my laptop. That's what it came with initially, and back in April when I thought it was running a bit too slow, I formatted it and threw XP Home on it, but it's still kinda iffy. It works and I have it so that no erroneous programs load into memory when it boots, but, eh, MCE could probably handle it a bit better.
I thought about going through the Cisco networking stuff, but ultimately settled on electrical engineering.
-
-
mce is great but you can that for free xbmc i think its called on your normal xp install i had it on my 360
-
Electrical engineering and Cisco are probably the two best paths to take right now.
Networking is the future of our lives, and any kind of engineer is going to make money. -
-
exactly and its quite easy to use im going to be doing networking coding stuff like that i say i will be making a fiar bit of money
-
i mean by the networking bit electrical engineering not really i do build computers for a living and i fix motherboards
-
-
-
you cant use a key for a differently keyed system with a activation file
unless its hacked
-
-
No.
A CD key to install the operating system.
I promise you, they are interchangeable. -
-
thats really wierd bcus i have entered it into my xp install maybe because its oem
-
-
Well you can't mix Vista and XP keys, but you CAN mix keys within the same product.
-
-
ahhh yes
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
and i wouldnt install xp to overrun my comp i dnt like windows at all
what do you mean by not work
-
-
-
Linux is a pain in the ass to use if you're not already familiar with Unix, or are a first-time user. I imagine I'll need to learn a bit about it in my OS class later this semester, but I'll deal with it then.
-
-
well im refering to ppl who have the os and ppls opinions and alot of ppl are right right and right when it comes to a general opinion looking for a non bias opinion these days is quite hard but im trying to look for ppl with both type of opinions regarding linux is good for my desktop and etc and also windows is efficient for the workplace thats true
-
-
There isn't much point in having Linux on your computer if you already have Mac OS X and WinXP.
-
-
i find it a learning experience
i have
xp zune installed
osx86 Ideneb installed
and ubuntu 8.04 installed i mostly use linux
-
-
-
i am familiar with unix i have two unix systems on my comp
-
-
I've never used it. I like Vista.
