    Examples:

"my mom is mad at me for being dark/emo"
"she wont let me keep a diary(i draw dark things) "
"I was just thinking the other day, most of the time my mom loves any kind of music, but when I play something dark, or emo she hate's it...like always."

Hmm. The examples you give are fairly sissy... But if someone were to say "I'm in a dark mood today because my most cherished companion died" I don't think that would be sissy. So, like many things, I think it depends entirely on the situation.

Ugh. Why did I waste my time thinking about this question?!

IS that a dark mood? There has GOT to be a better word to describe that feeling.

Yes, of course there is a better way of describing that feeling. Perhaps it was a bad example. My only point was that describing something as dark does not always make you a sissy...

That is a very poor description for how your friend dying feels, it could even be called a sissy description, where is the pain? The emotion? I give that description N/A (not achieved, please resubmit)

That wasn't my attempt to describe how a friend dying feels. Not even close.

    the absense of light
as in if this page were dark,
the computer would not be lighting up the room
    and keeping my friend awake

It makes you a completely unoriginal poet and pretty lame in my opinion, depending on context of course, I think the sky can be dark but that is probably a variation on colour I suppose.

Which is why, sadly, the vast majority of "writers" here who claim to write "dark poetry" suck at it, and write stupid crap.

  • Wow it's tied. I thought this would be more polarizing.

I would suggest people are undecided about whether using the word dark in such situations is just sissy or some variation on horribly lame etc.

    Ay it's dark

as dark as the cold soot in the fire place
thicker than the tar in my lungs
a blindman would stumble over stones in here

    the devil only dances
with those that give more than he would spare
    his motions burn emotions
    consuming all your cares

    deaf to the boom
    their existence is my attention
    listening for the silence
    the chirps of tiny animals
    their concert counseling my comfort
