I really loved it... It was weird... But I loved it. People on fanfiction.net were complaining about Bella being different when she was a vampire. Like meaner and stuff. And then made a parody of the book. People keep bashing it, because it was so different from the rest of the series. But really, it took on a more mature theme, and it showed in Bella's commentary, and the way she acted. She is going to be different after all of that.
    • That and she now has a natural inbred revulsion towards Jacob, that's all that really changed. And her confidence.
  • Not my favorite. Twilight was the best of them.

I loved it. I like Bella much better in this book.
    • I was proud that Stephenie included the natural revulsion of werewolves in. it would have been lame if they where still lovey dovey.

I only just read twilight for the first time, I found the main character annoying and weak. But I'm still going to read the rest, just cause my flatmate says I got to read it for the other characters.
    • I've not read any of the books in the series, but it sounds like a melodramatic bunch of annoying teeny vampires. Is that about right?

Yes. And predictable, most of the time you know exactly what will happen next. But let us never forget, vampires are hot.
        • That's good, now I know not to read the series.

          Also, no, no they're not.

                  "BRAINS!"

Well she falls into an easy trap that if she had just told her friends could have probably been avoided.
When she likes a guy or doesn't a like a guy who is pursuing her she doesn't do much about it, she doesn't go ask him out, she doesn't tell him to piss off. She has so many annoying self confidence issues I just can't relate too. She thinks she is ugly? I just don't identify with that because I'm so gorgeous and fierce, and according to the description she is hotter than me so I just don't get how she can't think she is totally fierce.

I also don't like the main guy, thinking he knows what is best for her, sure make a suggestion and give your reasoning in an illistrative way but if after much consideration I say I want to be a vampire you do what I tell you too! I'm not into boys who just override the opinions of their girlfriends, boys should do what they are told.
        • Are you suggesting, then, that girls should override the opinions of their boyfriends?

Are you suggesting girls should let boys control what happens to their own bodies? If I say I want or don't want something to happen to my body nobody else gets any say over that, it's my decision. What right does anyone else have to say what happens to my body, to say what risks I can and can't take?

And other girls can have boys who ignore them and don't give them anything they want, but that kind of boyfriend is substandard and I wont be having any of that. I demand perfection and I can because I am smart, beautiful and kind if I like you. That is why my boyfriend is a model who does what ever I ask him too.
            • I wasn't suggesting anything, I merely asked a question.

But your question is broadly phrased, it suggests that boys should get a say in what happens to their girlfriends body, when considered in relation to my post about what happens to a girls body once she decides what she wants to happen.
It questions my basic point that girls should have complete say over their bodies, when you question a point like that you infer that the world should be some other way. Re-phrase your question if you wish to infer otherwise.
                • My question is based around the statement, "I'm not into boys who just override the opinions of their girlfriends, boys should do what they are told." This sentiment has been repeated in other topics here and there on the board; sometimes it's connected to a girl's ability to modify her body, sometimes not.

Responding to what you have said about girls' bodies and their right to do what they wish to them, I imagine there would be a point where the boy should have a say. I'll use your method of jumping to an extreme and propose a situation in which a girl decided she didn't want her hands any longer. Should the male sit back and say, "Sure, whatever you want dear", or should he try to intervene?

Don't get me wrong, I don't care what people do with their bodies 99.999% of the time.

My statements before that sentence qualify it, standard paragraph structure.

If a girl wants to cut off her hands the boyfriend has no say in that, the law does though. She is mental defective and belongs in an insane house, the boyfriend does not make that judgement, her legal guardians do or the judge does. Besides in the that situation he has not voiced his opinion, which I said boys could do.

However there are some people who truly believe a body part does not belong to them, if therapy can not cure this I see no harm in the limb or whatever being removed (surgically and safely), though from my understanding of this mental disease it occurs more commonly in males. Of course if you thought your hand didn't belong to you at all and wanted it removed I am sure you would love your girlfriend to override your will and completely stop you consulting with surgeons to see what you could do about your problem. (Man with the first hand transplant in the world got his hand removed against the advice and wishes of his entire family, but I'm sure you would prefer to be forced to take the anti-rejection drugs against your will).

People who are about to commit suicide (as cutting your hands off yourself would reasonably result in) should be stopped because to not stop them could get you convicted of aiding a suicide, while we should all respect the physical rights of other humans we should not do so at a great expense of our own freedom, because it is a weighing game - their freedom of action against our own freedom action. When the law tells you to not let someone kill themselves, you should probably listen to it. Of course personal freedom of action does not always trump anothers freedom of action, hence the weighing game which judges help us work out.

I think my essential argument in relation to the hand one is one of legal consent.
If she can legally consent to having her hand cut off, and does, she should be allowed too. If is incapable of legal consent (underage, mentally unstable etc) then it is up to those around her to uphold the law (not their own opinions) to prevent her from such an action.

For example, if she is perfectly sane and has a sane reason for cutting off her hand (eg. infected with flesh eating bacteria and the only way to save the rest of her arm is to cut off the hand) she should be allowed despite a males opinion. If she is insane she can not consent, the law should be upheld.
        • It's rather closed minded to blame her for hr low self confidence. And at the same time closed minded that just because she's not you you don't relate to her. Men genetically don't like it when women chase them. the end.

I suppose it is close minded to blame her for low self-confidence but it isn't just because she isn't be I don't relate to her, I'm not Elspeth from Obernewtyn but I totally relate to her because we share a similar personality, but I don't live in a futuristic dystopia involved in massive rebellion nor were my parents killed while I watched. To not relate to a character because their reasoning seems silly and flawed to you doesn't seem close minded to me, I don't relate to all kinds of evil characters like that vampire who hunts her for these same reasons. Just because the reasoning behind a murder is flawed and silly and thus I don't relate doesn't make me a close minded person.

            [edit]
How does a genetic trait for boys not to like being chased come about? For me it seems being chased would seem to be genetically preferable as it would be much easier to have sex with and get pregnant a lot of girls if you enjoyed being chased, thus evolutionary reason to enjoy being chased. What is the counter argument?
  • i LOVED breaking dawn. I didnt even like think of jacob imprinting on renesmee.haha shows how stupid I am lol. I think bella's talent is awsome. but not as awsome as benjimens omg i wish i could control the elements lol. i cant wait for midnight sun :]

I know!!!! Bens was awesome!!!! I don't know what was up with Amun though. And Kebi just let him practically control her!!! I always expected Jacob and Leah to imprint on each other. Though, I hated Jacob Black before Breaking Dawn (he tried to break Bella and Edward up!!!) I earned a new respect for him in this one. I couldn't help it, once reading from his POV.

I KNOW!! Have you read the first chapter of midnight sun?

to Chickpea: I agree with you on a level. But I also agree with -BlackKnight-. I think their relationship should be equal. And they should listen to each other. Edward gives Bella any thing she wants as long as it's safe. (don't say anything about NEW MOON) And Bella keeps Edward happy. That is why Edward is so protective over Bella. She's really the only thing that makes him happy. He'd die if she did. He understands how fragile she is (he has superhuman strength and speed. he could break her like a twig). He knows how fragile she is, and couldn't stand to lose her. And on some level, Bella understands this. So she listens to him. You wouldn't find her near as weak if you read Eclipse.

I haven't read new moon yet.
I don't like boys telling me what is safe for me and what isn't, it is like they are saying "You are too stupid to work that out yourself", I'm not into that. That is why I dislike Edward, she knows how easy she could die but she still knows what she wants.
And just because a boy can't stand to lose a girl doesn't mean they have the right to tell her what she should and shouldn't do with her body. Just because there is a reason doesn't mean it is right, maybe some girls are into that, being told what to do and such, but that ain't my cup of tea. My boyfriend can suggest a course of action but he can't make my decision for me. I suppose that is why I don't like the book, their relationship isn't one of equals, he makes a decision about the rest of her life for her and she doesn't leave him. Its like my boyfriend telling me "I know you want to be a lawyer for the rest of your life but I think it will crush your spirit so I'm not going to let you", he just doesn't have the right and I can't sympathises with a girl who doesn't leave a guy who acts like that.

The book was to Gothic Romance in the beginning and ended without anything Gothic at all. It's like wuthering heights if heathcliffe and Cathy lived in the end, bleck. Other than that it was a good book.
And I agree that the movie looks like its going to be less than satisfactory.
