Underrated music genres?

I was just listening to 14 Iced Bears and thinking that even now I seriously wonder why the twee pop movement never took off. I'm sure it has something to do with being a pop oriented movement before the huge surge of post-Garden State indie enthusiasts, but it's still pretty curious. Same feelings for math rock, electroclash, and baile funk. Thoughts, opinions?

Science death metal and alternative Russian folk rock. Normally I hate death metal (for it is the music of 12 year olds well my 12 year old cousin listens to it so I always associate it with children) but when you add the periodic table to anything it is awesome.
    • Most 12-year-olds that claim to listen to death metal tend to listen to shite. Seems like a lot of the really quality stuff these days in any genre of music gets swept aside by crap.

That would be because death metal is shite.
        • Most of it is, but there is some good death metal out there that most people don't listen to or know about.

Here's an example of the good stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CffJeVSAJk8
        • No it's not shite :| I am offend, tis a fav genre of mine and what i play most on my guitar
          I am not 12 either.
And nor are my friends who also like it.
generic death metal is boring as hell, but if you find good death metal tis-

theres math rock and science death metal?!?!?! dude thats just crazy!

I didnt even really know those genres existed...

well, no one listens to those genres (when I say no one I mean the general public) because the mainstream is so much more popular. I mean, who wants to listen to lyrics like this..

I was fucking exited about calculus
but when I got up this morning I missed the bus.

When they could listen to lyrics like...

You can dig me up a grave
and try to stick me in the ground
you can tie me to the bed and try to beat me half to death
but you can never keep me down.

the 2nd choice is a lot more catchy when people talk about love because everyone can relate to it. face it, my friends, NOBODY LIKES SCHOOL. so why would they want to listen to lyrics about math when they could listen to songs about *bunnying* hoes and pimpin *bunnies* and slapping *bunnies*?

however, the youtube link to that band In Flames...the song is amazing. like Killswitch Engage but more heavy.

so thats my explanation to your question.
    • You're kidding, right? About the lyrics, I mean.

Do some reading about math rock: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Math_rock

Actually where i'm form Math Rock is quite popular...well i'm into and most of my friends are.

All the bands you mentioned who are amazing...are outdated and cliché. All their lyrcis are depressing and about heartbreak and moths to flames and death and violence. Boring.

      Battles are awesome.

Not really, Bands like In Flames are very good.

Killswitch Engage is as original as it gets, there is nobody like them out there (as far as I know)

so stick to what you know, check out some killswitch music.
        • Killswitch Engage is...okay at best. They're a lot like Avenged Sevenfold was in their early days.
    • "so why would they want to listen to lyrics about math when they could listen to songs about *bunnying* hoes and pimpin *bunnies* and slapping *bunnies*?"

Math rock is not music about math. It's the complexity of the music.
And for the most part it takes somone with a brain to play it. Some actually have to go to school to learn it.

Any dumbass can have sex. You don't even have to have an education to have an orgasm. Singing songs about pimpin' and ho's is not impressive.
    • Killswitch Engage is nothing compared to In Flames. In Flames > most other metal bands.

I don't think Pendulum are really underrated anymore. They get quite a lot of attention and radio play, I think.

65daysofstatic is one of my favourite bands. Fall of Math is easily in my top 10 albums of all time.
  • A friend of mine is more into techno/electronica/coldwave stuff like 16volt, Wumpscut and Velvet Acid Christ.
