...people seem to want new poetry all the time? this site is too busy with competition that it wants new poems every day. old poems, unless, and even then get ignored 'cos they are not in contests, get no attention, as i was saying before i went on a branch - they are updated with today's date. poetry, poetry, where is the poetry? it's more like a diary site! i can post a poem and someone will say to me oh cheer up or whatever, with them thinking the poem is a personal poem, not all poems written and posted are related to the self! but back to my point, why do people not care about older poems written?

i for one will not be posting any new poetry - some might think that is a good thing though.

    OH!

Your poetry collection is huge and I have six of your books which allows me to enjoy reading your poems over and over (I have my favorites, of course.) So in a way, if you never wrote another poem, I'd still have the poems in your books to love.
However, dear Sir Master Poet, when you write a new poem I am thrilled to see it! A new poem helps to ignite the creative spark and it's fun to fashion something new to fit a prompt I might have never imagined.

I cannot imagine life without your humour poems, for instance. You write such delightful poems to fit life as it bounces along.
    • oh i will still write - it will depend on whether i post what i write here though in the future
  • The contests do provide a way placing poems in front of eyes, perhaps there should be more ongoing ones for pre-writes, categorised separately and likely able to prove popular because of the 'choice' writes being placed there. Maybe this is already so... to be honest I wouldn't necessarily know but if it is, or were to be, I'd be interested in supporting it.

Hope you do keep posting... but also expose your choice pre-writes too!

    • well it will be awhile beofre i post any new poem here, i am shuffling poems read them.
  • You have a point, my first two hundred poems have been removed, only recently I thought about re posting the first one because it comes from the heart but with me thought and action do not always dance in tune and so I still haven't done that.
Am glad two or more comments are fine for I shan't feel so foolish, though I still feel guilty as the system does not allow a second round of applause.
No need to reply dear poet, go with the flow and not the overflow lol or you'll be doing the dishes in the bath again
Lmao that I invite an eternity of discussion, made me smile at your politeness and reminded me of my being pleased once at my writing being compared to the soliliquoy by Molly Bloom by someone I admired as a writer, anyhow, upon telling my brother-in-law he said oh, what he was , in effect, telling you was that your stream of consciousness was a stream of cr*p! Oh my, ouch!!!

Night night from the babbling brook!

I am alway anxious to read your poetry whether new or old, I agree with Yvette about the issue of being prompted to write new poems, I know that I have improved a bit by trying new styles and going in directions unfamiliar to me. My first poems are quite pathetic and I have improved little, but love being inspired to do something new. The thing about your poetry, you have written so many there is something to fit every occasion and they are all top notch, perfection, in my opinion. I open your poems like a present, re-reading several times. You raise the bar for the rest of us, please don't stop completely.
Some topics for poems have been written every way possible, and it becomes stale, occasionally someone will throw in something different and edgy, most times that someone is you.
    • sometimes i forget that i am writing for a lng tome and others are not so forgive me on that please my friend what i do get disappointed with is people wantinmg me to be a poetry machine - and i can write a poem in any given minute but i dont want to! i am not saying i am stopping writing poetry what i am saying is i am for here in this site i wrote a load bwefore i came here and loads while i was here but now i feel wasted here, i need a new inspiration, i will still reshuffle but my inspiration here is gone. to many attack me for trying to help them etc and so forth ... ha yea perhaps it is me but there are others too that are on my leel, most i know i love even if i quarrell with peeps, it means nothing but it gets nme dowbn when i am attacked all the time so my best defenbce is to feck off but i will still be here moving houses if not putting new ones in
  • Well Ian, I think you have a good point. People are always looking to put up a contest that inspires someone to write. That often will lead to a new poem - well it almost always leads to a new poem.

Older poems rarely get read on this site because I don't think people want to scroll all the way through. I get reads now and then when someone is checking out a form in one of my lists, but readers rarely look at our work like a book they can page through. That's why we need it to be in a book, that can be picked up, scanned, read here and read there. Portable. We just don't use a web site the same way.

I think it is due to the medium we choose to place our work. People just aren't going to go back and look at older work. Its human nature to read the latest piece and comment. Unfortunate but true in this medium.

    • there is an option in edit your poem to update it to today's date

now & again, I pin old writes to my author page

that way I get to review my previous, possibly re-editing, and anyone who visits my page gets to read something older from me, possibly liking it...

and you know, old or nu: from you, it's all good
