Your favorite post and favorite poet

This is a spin-off from triste elle's post, where he asks who you think the best AP poet is--which is no doubt a loaded question. Reading the responses to his topic has sparked a bit of curiosity in me, which I'm now going to share.

I have two questions, which I'd like you to respond to individually:

    1) What is your favorite post here at AP?

    2) Who is your favorite poet here at AP?

Now, before you respond, here is how I envision this topic developing:

First, be clear about what your favorite post is and who your favorite poet is. Next, confirm that the post and profile still exist, and provide links to them with your response. And lastly, provide some reasons why the post and poet are your favorites. Don't just respond with names and links.

Bear in mind that your favorite post need not be from your favorite poet. Also bear in mind I'm not asking you what you think the best poem is that's ever been posted here, or who you think the best poet is. I'm asking about your favorites--subjects of your personal tastes--and to tell me why they're your favorites.

Your choices may be purely personal and subjective. Or if you like you can back your choices with academic conditioning, quoting various texts from the corpora of the Humanities.

What I, and hopefully everyone who responds here, will do, is go read the posts and profiles shared, and maybe gain some insights into your decisions and your reasons behind them.

Alas, as the initiator of this post, I will decline from choosing a favorite post or poet to share here, for fear of influencing the natural flow of this topic. I also won't judge or criticize any of the choices shared, and I invite the rest of you to do the same. Take this as an opportunity to see where fellow members of the community are coming from, and to open your mind to some of the unique thought processes behind their choices.

My favorite poet on Allpoetry is pania http://allpoetry.com/pania

I think she combines a wonderful depth of emotion along with clarity and maturity in her work.

My favorite post is The Singing Bones by pania http://allpoetry.com/poem/4427107

I could describe the poem but I would rather you read it to better understand the work.

I had a look at that poem. It's a thought provoking write, and well executed. Thank you for your contribution here.
  • My favourite poet on AP is arafura,http://allpoetry.com/arafura

He writes from the heart, a simple man with a vision of life that sees the good in the everyday things that people can relate to instantly. His quiet wisdom, and strong love for his country and the people and places of it, shine through all his works. My favourite poem of his is this, based on a song that is a favourite of mine, Hotel California.

  • Ah you've worded this much better than I did, yea this is exactly what I was after as well!

My favorite post is "Three Good Swings" by Rakerman1.

I grew up on baseball and I guess that's why I love this piece. Excellent rhyme and flawless flow doesn't hurt either.

I'm really not sure who my favorite poet is yet... I haven't really branched out and read a lot of people yet, I guess that's why I started the other thread, because I wanted to check out some of the good poets.

That one was kind of fun. I can see why you like it.

Yea picking a favorite AP poet would be difficult for me. There are several whom I respect, even if I don't always enjoy their writing, and several whom I really don't care for, even if I sometimes enjoy their writing.

I've really been lurking the past few years, not interacting much. So I'm not really aware of who's on the scene these days anyway.

    Favourites

I find it difficult to choose a favourite poet or poem, I am ADHD & Bi-polar so I have difficulty choosing what socks to wear, but I would put Pania & arafura in my top five. I am undecided about the other three. arafura's work from what I've seen is quite scarily deep. Makes me think of a lot of things very poignant to myself at the moment. Pania just keeps banging superbly crafted poems out with a regularity I am quite envious of.

Eric has been around for quite awhile, and he was good friends with a mutual friend who now has a memorial page setup.

Would you be willing, Matt, to link us to the profile in question for us lazy folks?

Also, what about poems, completely independent of authors. What would you say your favorite poem is that you've read here?
        • my favourite 'poems' are mine---I know them off by heart!

Would you be willing to venture out a title that you'd consider among your favorites here? I'm guessing it would be one of Pania's or arafura's, but I'm curious to know because oftentimes our favorite piece of writing isn't from our favorite writer. Be sure to provide a link to the poem you bring to attention.
  • I suck, consistently. Consistency counts, right?

What about favorites, Scott? What would you say your favorite AP post is? And whose profile would you point out as belonging to your favorite AP poet? Be sure to provide links for us lazy folk.
      • I really can't do that. Well, I could, but it doesn't work for me. My favorite post would likely be the last good poem I read, and my favorite AP poet is a choice I don't choose to make. I'm just not deep enough, I think.
        • I find new poets and their works by looking at the favourites of a poet whose work I like - this takes me on extended trips around the site - well worth the effort!

          My first thought

was the same as yours. A number of poets here are so good that I stay here to learn from them and gain inspiration. Oddly enough, I do/can name a fave.
I did a collab contest with onerios 13 recently. Her writing never ceases to amaze me, but given that her piece took on the nature of a letter, {in the way of letters between poets I have marvelled at} the "personal" value of it moved it to top my list.
Never mind my pale answer, or the fact that I'm just a wierd old hippy, and not the good guy she paints. It just reads like genious...

well, I have a lot of favorites but one that continues to fascinate me over time is this piece that was written for a 19th century apothecary jar and if you know anything about the history of the civil war and how this drug was used, this takes on legendary dimensions. Never mind that this poet was 16 when she wrote this: http://allpoetry.com/poem/2621466
