I have a novel that I would love to have critiqued by an online audience before I consider publishing it. If I post it on AP, is it already considered published? Even if it would be considered published online, could I still publish it in a book to sell to the public? In other words, can I publish it a second time in a regular book that would be sold in a bookstore, even if it is already available to the public online, or is that forbidden? Also, if I do post in on here and it has a copyright, am I protected if someone reading my work decides to steal my idea or plagiarize, or would I have to pay to get a copyright?

More publishers than not would consider anything which has been posted on the internet as being 'already published' and will not touch it.
Well that is what I have found through research anyway.

Thank you! I thought that would be the case. Thanks for your help and advice. It is much appreciated. ^_^

If you're going to self-publish, then it really wouldn't matter. If you want to shop around for an agent, etc, it might matter.

Yes. I was definitely wanting to find an agent. I have heard that it is nearly impossible to get published if you don't promote yourself and your works and if you don't have an agent to get your name out there. Would your recommend lulu.com that I have heard so much about? Or is that mainly for self-publishing? Do you belong to lulu?

I belong to lulu. It's a self-publishing place. It fits my needs. Some people do rather well with self publishing (not me... I sold nine whole copies
.. then again, I didn't market myself or anything)

Thank you! ^_^ This really helps me a lot. I believe I will end up going down the traditional publisher/agent route. Are there any particular companies that you would recommend?

This site lists a lot of the agents, and whether they are preditors ... or editors."
yoshi posted this link on Storywrite about agents...

Thanks for the link. ^_^ I really appreciate your help and advice.

It would be a good idea to contact a publishing company first. I know there are some places that prefer the materials not to be viewed by an audiance before you publish. I read it in a book, I still have it here just don't know where it is. when I find it I'll give the title and isbn number.

Publishing companies prefer people to go through agents, a lot of them do not deal with writers directly, and rather deal with agents only.

Thank you for your advice and help! I would love to be referred to any useful books, since I need to do some research anyway. I really appreciate your input. ^_^
