I've read tons poems on this site and would be curious to post my own in hopes of getting feedback and constructive criticism, but I have one issue. I've heard that once something is "published" on a website, many magazines (I assume the ones who specify they are looking for previously unpublished work) will not consider them. I've been writing and editing for 8 years and anything I wouldn't be embarrassed to post here, I'm considering sending in to a publication. Is this an issue I have to worry about? Thanks.

    (from http://allpoetry.com/home/guide )

"Publication houses often deal in terms of "first publication rights". It is our experience that temporary online publication does not constitute "first publication", but we make no guarantee that any publisher you may deal with in the future will agree. By participating in this site, you release us of any responsibility for your first publication rights."

A lot of people use AP for an 'editing' site... putting up a rough draft of sorts, then editing until they get it the way they want. Sometimes, publishers accept this, sometimes they claim it's 'published'.

Thanks for the response. The style of poetry I write (Shel Silverstien meets Ogden Nash meets Robert Frost, though maybe when they met they all lost some of their writing abilities...but not much I hope )is a tough enough market to really publish for me to risk it right now. Kind of a pain thought because I'd love to be able to have people see them without having to worry.
