Why is everyone so bloody sniffy about self publishing?
It was good enough for Dickens, Chaucer, Shakespeare and a great many of the leading names in english literature past and present...
Let's be honest with ourselves here; a slim volume of perverse verse is hardly The Gulag Archipeligo or War and Peace; or Harry Potter for that matter, and as such is unlikely to attract either a mass audience or much in the way of profit for a publishing conglomerate... So why not? -
Most might say that back in those days, one had to self publish......
although....
These are just a few popular writers reported to have used self-publishing to launch their careers:
William Blake
Robbie Burns
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Samuel (Mark Twain) Clemens
Alexander Dumas
Zane Grey
James Joyce
Rudyard Kipling
D.H. Lawrence
Edgar Allen Poe
George Bernard Shaw
Henry David Thoreau
Virginia Woolf
Margaret Atwood
Tom Clancy
Stephen Crane
Wayne Dyer
Carl Sandberg....
the list goes on. -
Wow!!! If the list goes on keep adding to it - I am intrigued...
