Does anyone know anything, good or bad, about Infinity Publishinc Co.? I'm looking into them, although my book's not even finished yet. You see, I don't want my book to be finished, and then have to wait 2 years to find someone willing to publish it.

    They're a vanity service with a lot of pre-costs:

lulu.com (a P.O.D.) also has costs: http://www.lulu.com/services/ but you don't have to use them if you want to edit, format and 'sell' on your own (you just need to buy the ISBN and do leg work to get it into place).

Although,, from what I've read on other web sites, a lot of people were not impressed with Infinity. Might be good to use a P.O.D. service, pay for one book to be published, and see if you like it... then you can change it to suit your need or wants. If you like it, then check into their services (any company), if you don't, then all you're really out is the price of one book, instead of $500.

Which with Lulu.com you can set your own price for the book and then as the author get a discount. So, you can get a book for as little as $3-$4.

Not sure how small the book would have to be to get it for 3-4 dollars but I put up this small collection from AP poets when I first started hosting contests here in early 2006 and you can order it AT COST - that is, at no mark-up beyond what lulu charges to print it for $5.57. It is only black and white though - if you do a colored interior - it is quite a bit more expensive.

        52 pages for 5.57
  • Approaches to decision on using Infinity Publishing

The first thing to remember is that there are hundreds of thousands of poets out there with great talent. The odds are better in a lottery win than success with a published or self-published book of poetry. Next, Infinity recently opened a website, AuthorNation.com (kind of take-off of the name of the well known publishing house, AuthorHouse). AuthorNation is owned by Infinity Publishing Company. Sign-up, do not post personal info on your profile and take an hour or two to scope out the threads in their past postings. Your impressions of the site, will assist you in a decision. Also note profiles on the posters that have large posting counts on the site. Many employees of Infinity are on site, shown as regular members, until you double check back on their profiles. Note also, many of the posters on the site, are published with Infinity, and of course, further promote the site, the company and their published books, since the company renders no real support in marketing efforts for their customers. Finally, the "Google" search tool is a great way to see what others think of the company. Use the regular mode and the advance mode for this fact finding mission. Since an initial payment of five hundred dollars is not chicken feed, a few hours of investigation may save you much disappointment in the future in selection a publishing company of this type from the net. From my experience, anything worth doing, is worth the time for self-empowerment in knowledge and experience. I self-published with Lulu.com and am absolutely thrilled with the results of my own two published charity-centered poetry books.

'The odds are better in a lottery win than success with a published or self-published book of poetry' - a slight exaggeration. I have two friends who have several volumes and are invited readers at festivals etc' and one who makes a living from writing verse 'to order' (not so artistic, but it pays the bills).

The chances of winning the UK lottery are 1/10000000.

It IS possible for some people to be published non-vanity. It takes time, patience, luck and a lot of thick-skinned hard work. Vanity is a good idea if you are ready to be published but don't want the heartache, but you've got to have a market first.

I haven't heard much about Infinity and that perhaps is a warning in itself. Lulu is very established and seems to present the wiser choice.

    I went with Xlibris

I did my first book with Xlibris and I found them to be reasonable. I suggest you shop around until you find one you are comfortable with.
    Good Luck
