Anyone in Canada self published their own poetry books? Just wondering if you can recommend some good company to do this through? Anyone want to go halves or quarters, thirds on a book of poetry - yours, mine, ours?

I use lulu.com ...wish I could find a Canadian company that allows self publishing. Have you gone to regional publishers? Usually they like to print local talent...as long as the story/poems are about the area....or at least it's like that in Nova Scotia (it's boring writing about fishing/farming/coal mining... it's been done!)

Poetry Market
There are lots and lots. If you check the library, if you're unwilling to buy the book, it lists them all (most of them). There prices vary greatly though. So much will depend on size, shape, coluour, graphics, etc. I use to know several years ago, but have been away for several years and a break-down so mind doesnt work as well anymore for long-term memory. You probably can expect to pay between $4 -> $12 for each copy if you have 500 or more printed (approx. 65-120pg.)(believe you me thats not many) Ussually your local bookstores (if your in small city) are willing to let you sit and sign them for a special day. Hope this helps.

I have found very few Canadian publishers who, like many of the other pod or self-publishers do not ask for a large, up front amount of cash before they even look at your manuscript. Having said that, I have recently discovered a British Columbia publisher who does not charge any money for publishing, only for set up and formatting. They charge a set price for printing your book, based on the number you order. The difference between them and the others I have contacted, such as xlibris, iuniverse, etc., is that you don't have to pay $1,000 up front and then have to buy your books at $5.00 each. They offer the usual "extras", such as marketing, editing, but it is reasonable. I am just going through the motions now with them, so I can't say how good or bad my experience has been. The nice thing is, you keep 100% of your royalties from sales. They do ask for a 50% deposit with submission of your manuscript. I am currently waiting for my proof to decide whether or not it is acceptable.
They prefer that the manuscript be pre-formatted and in pdf format. That was really the easy part for me, and when they received it, they replied stating that they only had minor sdjustments to make (insert copywrite page, etc.) My manuscript consists of 67 pages of poetry formatted in a 6x9 size with margins set to their specifications. Everything is written in Word and than converted to pdf. If you are not too computer friendly, they will assist you with set up. They do not edit but will point out any obvious, glaring spelling mistakes and grammar, so you better be pretty confident that your content is error free, or they will return it and ask you to fix it.
The name is First Choice Publishers. -
MUST you self-publish? PLEASE do not do it until you have tried all other options!

Agreed - self publishing is a big no no unless you are not bothered about publishing your work the 'correct' way and making a name for yourself.
If you just want to get some work out there why not try Lulu.com they seem to be good and have special deals for AP members.
