There is an interesting scheme open to poetry writing enthusiasts the world over, which involves writing a poem to help UK nature conservation.
Stonecat Nature Reserves at www.stonecatnaturereserves.co.uk uses poetry writing enthusiasts to help raise funds by writing. Essentially, poets are invited to submit a poem to be included in a compilation. This book is printed up as a set run, which equates to 15 books per contributor.
SNR keeps back one book for reference, gives 4 to the poet to keep, and asks each contributor to sell the remaining 10 to friends, family, work colleagues etc for a nominal sum which is then forwarded to SNR funds.
It is only a small scheme but is one ideal for allowing poets to see their work in print and help a good cause at the same time.
Poetry previously published in print is not allowed, but work posted on the Internet is. Poems can be on most subjects and be in any style. Work between 25 and 40 lines as laid out is preferred.
Well worth a look.
