African Sweetness

Traveling far across this planet; in search
For truth in tender fruit; to gently be devout
Quest finally comes to rest; beauty bears in
Bushy African trees; deep within the south

Ripened for picking; A beautiful berry
Of delicious flavorings; so sweet
I gently pick her from the tree of life
O, so beautiful; such a delight; blood-red cherries

As gently I nibble upon skin so tender
Taste the benevolent juice of life enclosed within
Soft, fleshy tenderness of nectar; I indulge
Savoring flavors of sweetness; surely no sin

Summer heat rocks me; upon this afternoon
As winds begin to blow; Wisp forth this fine day
Clouds roll in from the east; summer showers
As I intently look at my cherry I’ve dubbed Rudé

Never have I tasted; such amiable, tender beauty
As she rolls within my fingers; so warm
A blend of such; amicable and enticing exoticness
I will remember this fine day; ‘til my last seen dawn.

For a Friend

Like bloodred wine
Your poems slowly bleed
Words of wisdom, hope, friendship
(inspiration finally freed)
My dear friend, surely you can see
The affect
Your every word has upon me?
(to these eyes a whole new world you have unveiled)
And, yes, hard as it is to believe,
In you I’ve found the friend
I’ve searched a lifetime for
Strange, though,
As I’ve never met you before
With crimson ink
(for surely that is the only colour for you)
You have left your mark
For eternity on this soul
And bound your heart to mine.
(I wish you could hear the loving words I keep inside)
Yet I know not how to thank you
For surely,
Mere words could never do?
Just know, that if you ever need a friend,
I’ll be right here.
Perhaps I could begin to repay you
For all you have done for me
(oh, but how many a lifetime would that take?)
If you ever grow weary
Remember, this sacred place deep within my heart
Is where you shall find your rest.
