BatteredangelShow poetry

Hello, fellow poets. My name is Thressa. I live in a small town in Arkansas where nothing much goes on, so I like to escape reality in my writings. I'm a survivor of child abuse(soon to be a conqueror). My poetry reflects my struggles, defeats, and triumphs in my battles against the dark demons of my mind. Although, some of my poetry is a bit lighter and some are spiritual, most are of a darker, more desperate nature. I apologize if they seem a bit disturbing, but I write what I feel. Needless to say, I don't write much love poetry! I'm the type of person who becomes shy and embarrassed to read a love poem, but feels more comfortable reading something a bit more angst and dark. I do believe in God, but I'm afraid I am a troubled soul. I'm working on that! Anyway welcome to the dark realms of my world. I hope you'll visit again!

Favorite bands...Seether, Evanescence, The Used, Alice In Chains, Metalica, Trivium, Trapt, Disturbed, Nine Inch Nails, just to name a few. My son turns me on to most of the music I listen to. Music has always been our connection. Love Ya, Brandon!

I am pleased to have met your acquaintance.

I have to tell you a little something about my experiences with God. I used to always be confused on whether he actually existed because when I went to church, people would always say they're following his will and preached doing good in the world. Yet, when services were over on Sunday afternoon they'd go back to drinking, backbiting, smoking and everything else they didn't want to admit to the other six days of the week. The last time I joined a church (three years ago now) everything was cool right up until I got baptized (for the eighth time in my life, I think, since they had me convinced that every other church was wrong in their approach) and then, suddenly, I was expected to be perfect. No more jeans (and I hated dresses, so you can believe I rebelled against that forever); no more dyed hair, no makeup, no jewelry. Basically, you couldn't even have an identity. And I remember sitting there forever, the pastor and deacon and teachers emphasizing over and over how "evil" we are. It never sat right with me. It still doesn't.

I decided that after New Year's of '04 I would never step foot in a church again. And I haven't. I still believe in Christ, his teachings and his message, but after I noticed my depression worsening, I knew something had to be wrong...and no longer was I the problem. Christianity (the way it is currently administered) and I have since parted ways and I have never felt better, spiritually or otherwise.

These last years I have studied other religious pathways and determined that they're basically the same, with differences that suited the times they came about but with the same basic message. The God you know and the God I know is not one of blind vengeance or hatred, prejudice or punishment. And I refuse to believe that people would choose to do evil over good were they left alone. People do as they know and if we don't know any better, well... you get my drift. Besides, we cannot be faulted for something we do not know.

I am glad for whoever started you on this new pathway. I hope it is one that will help you prosper in all ways. I would like to have a dialogue but only if you are interested. A benefit may come from a sharing of one's beliefs, as long as the person isn't trying to force you to believe as they do.

    Take care.

    Many blessings,

    Raven Aurora

batteredangel - I entered this pre-write as a bit of a defence against the blacky magicy stuff and the horrid wee trick or treaters that go about scaring old ladies. See, in the UK (not sure if you are USA, didn't look - soz - nasty wee boys put fireworks through old ladies' letter boxes, etc etc etc. I like a party as much as the next woman, but think FUN should be key - not the rotten stuff. SO UPSHOT IS - this is my cute witch poem. But I can still be VERY BAD INDEEED (only if necessary though!!) Great contest xx chilli xx
