I don't write many poems, because whenever I try to write one they usually aren't very good. I wait for them to pop into my head and often leave them like that. I HATE revising of any sort. Since I wait for them to pop into my head I barely ever write any poetry sadly, and my poems are often short. I should try to write more...it's a good medium for expression. But since I procrastinate I probably will forget...
Also it seems that I'm the most inspired when I'm going through a really emotional stage - say, a bad breakup. It's probably the same for most people though: no emotions, no inspiration. Writing really helped me get through some difficult times, and I'm grateful for my little journal for that.

As for the haiku, the 5-7-5 rule was a misunderstanding, as I have discovered recently. There's no specific rule as to how many syllables it has, as long as it's 17 syllables or less, total. Visit this link here to learn all about what makes a real haiku:
