As Salaam Alaikum (peace be upon you)

Thanks for dropping by my page. I hope you find something interesting in it… well to start with a lil about me

My name is Abdulla Zakir and I am from Bahrain which is a very small country in Middle East may be the smallest but it is a beautiful and literally hot place to live.

Poetry is something I took on as a hobby and I enjoy writing poems, It is very relaxing and way out of my daily life boredom. Each of my poems tells something about my personality the bad and the good. But rarely any of them are related with my life… I just write poems on most random things. I have great friends and a greater family… I respect family values and I think I am kind of old school person.

When I write poems I usually write poems for others or for the readers, what’s the point of a poem if its only me who is gonna read it.. I just write for the fun of writing not for money or for fame but I wouldn’t mind giving some beautiful poems to the world to read.. for that I would try harder every time. I really like when someone likes my poem and if it brings the essence for which the poem is written for.. then the goal of that poem is achieved.   This is all also what inspires me… the reader’s reactions good and bad. Enough of my crap, lets read some of my poems

i would really appreciate if u read this poem written by Izdehar Albowyha. I really love this poem. It’s on hijab

hijab... in Islam women wear hijab, to cover their head and burka to cover whole body..
Many people have problem understanding the concept of it and have wrong idea aboutt it..

You look at me and call me oppressed,
Simply because of the way I'm dressed,
You know me not for what's inside,
You judge the clothing I wear with pride
My body's not for your eyes to hold,
You must speak to my mind, not my feminine mold,
I'm an individual, I'm no mans slave,
It's Allah’s pleasure that I only crave
I have a voice so I will be heard,
For in my heart I carry His word,
"O ye women, wrap close your cloak,
So you won't be bothered by ignorant folk"
Man doesn't tell me to dress this way,
It's a Law from God that I obey,
Oppressed is something I'm truly NOT,
For liberation is what I've got
It was given to me many years ago,
With the right to prosper, the right to grow
I can climb mountains or cross the seas,
Expand my mind in all degrees
For God Himself gave us LIB-ER-TY
When He sent Islam,
To You and Me...     by Izdehar Albowyha

It’s a Muslim women's view .

  • Shamanicmusings : Islam duality on October 28
    Hello,
Islam has a certain duality; it has a magnaminous theory but in practise its political regimes leave a great deal to be desired. There are those such as Armadinejad ( rigged the elections in Iran)who now carries on leading the oppressive regime in Iran whilst Ayatollah Khameini is purportedly powerless to intervene. It is time to let Islam BE Islam (Amy Chua N.Y.Times). Stereotyping is of no use whatsoever and the issues of political Islam would take a whole lot of debate. Only a small % of Mulims are situated in the Middle East. Most are in the diaspora.

great page and thanks for posting the piece on Hijab. I am an american born Muslim woman, who wears hijab and proudly.
  • Your poetry is amazing!
  • Salaams~

Interesting 'debate' you're having with non-Muslims who think they understand what is going on in areas of the Muslim world based on what we're fed here in our American media. I'm a Muslim woman who observes the hijab in the U.S. I really don't think Americans who had no idea about the country of Afghanistan before the year 2001 have any real understanding of the issues, and the games that have been played with the Afghani people. I'm a Pakistani-American who has lived most of her life (30+ years) in the U.S. I was born however in the North West Frontier Province which borders Afghanistan, and I have family there. People judge an entire country and religion based on sensational news stories which are filtered through. And yet the double standard is mind boggling. Violence in general and violence against women in the West are pervasive, and yet this is never taken as evidence as a reason why its social and political structure should be overrun and changed by those who know better. Because it's more complicated than that? Well, it's the same with other countries. We need to afford the same respect to other cultures, which we expect for our own. Having said that, yes, there is violence and misogyny in the Muslim world, just as there is the same in the West. They manifest themselves differently. Both need to be changed.

Remain strong in your beliefs. I like that you feel strongly enough to write a poem on hijab.

    peace~
