I am a proud black woman of Jamaican descent, and I am forever going back to my roots. To me, Poetry is the soul's song- lyrics from deep within one's being. It is the "measured language of emotion". I find myself inspired by circumstances around me or within myself. I started writing poetry at the age of 12 and I am currently 18.
I live by the words of Leon J. Suenes, "Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true." Attitude is everything as depicted in the poem:
"The Man Who Thinks He Can"
"If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win, but think you can't
It's almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you've lost.
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a fellow's will:
It's all in his state of mind.
If you think you're outclassed, you are:
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You'll ever win that prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can."
With that I say, believe in your abilities! As for me, I am the woman that KNOWS I can!
Lastly,as I want to improve by poetry considerably I ask that you please leave a critical comment on any poem read. Thank you!
Now,indulge into my world...
