A Dream Within A Dream
by Edgar Allan Poe (bookmark) (print) (next)
Author Category: Americas. Written in 1827. Show lines.

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

-Whereever you go, Whatever you do, I'll be here missing you.

-I want to scream. I want to shout. I want to have faith and never doubt. I want to bend. I want to break, to sleep and never wake. To break down walls and escape, be alone and hide my face. I want to feel, I want to touch. I want to stop wanting it so much.

-Somewhere there's someone who dreams of your smile, and finds in your presence that life is worthwhile, so when you are lonely remember it's true, someone somewhere is thinking of you.

If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,

For we have some flax- golden tales to spin.
Come In!
Come In!
Come In!

thanks for reviewing my poem "days of rain",you were close to target ,it is about having so many responsibilities and not
being able to shed any of them and run free , so comes
"days of rain" i suppose it is like depression where nothing is
wrong except the burden .. by the way I liked your quotes ,
the one about the mosquito in the room was really funny ,but true , smiles at you ...i have a few mosquitos in my room ,
