Utopian EvolutionShow poetry

"Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. . . . It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more." - Erica Jong

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” - Lao Tzu

Dear poet,

You've entered my place of solace, I bid you welcome ...

I am Gabriel ... or Gabe for short if you desire.  I was born on September 4th, 1985 in Bacolod City, Philippines.

I am like you ... for we all are tied together energetically, or if you believe in a more religious fashion, we are all created in the likeness of the created source; God. For those of you who seek being understood, know this ... that is a trivial pursuit. Being misunderstood is what separates us from one another ... believe that and continue to live your life the way your heart desires it, no one else can do that for you so evolve, take responsibility for your own action and never live with regret.

My writing style used to be quite sordid, filled with melancholy and verses as if I myself was a member of the damned ones of old, but lately (over the course of the past year) my style has changed. This is, in my eyes, partly to my growth and evolution of knowledge and experiences for good or for worse, but this new approach leaves me feeling exhilarated and far more awake to everything than I have ever been. Of course ... the old ways linger amongst the new, that I doubt will ever change and I intend not to have it change either.

I am currently working on a novel based in the realm of fantasy. I will not disclose any information on this current venture of mine, if you wish to know more (which I’m sure if you’ve known me in the past, you will, heh...) just ask.

“When God created the angel, he commanded them to pay worship to no one but himself, but then, creating man, he commanded them to bow in reverence to this most noble of his works, and Lucifer refused -- because, we are told, of his pride. However, according to some sources, it was rather because he loved and adored God so deeply and intensely that he could not bring himself to bow before anything else and because he refused to bow down to something that was of less superiority than him. (Since he was made of fire and man from clay.) And it was for that that he was flung into Hell, condemned to exist there forever, apart from his love.”

I ask you, what is the correlation between women and Venus, when Venus is indeed an inferior planet that is subjected to the myths of the morning star; Lucifer or Satan?

I believe in a higher being, I believe God was created by the Universe to better understand its power.... I believe God created angels to better understand his immortality ... and I also believe that man was created to better understand how creatures would function if they were given a limited time to live. I believe meditation is a practice that we all should partake in to better accomodate our subconscious mind to be one with our conscious mind. I believe in no religion for they are all too construed for my taste by my studies of them. I will not scorn those who believe in them though, it is your choice and I respect that decision with love from my heart.

"[America] goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own. She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example. She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom." - John Quincy Adams

How this quote would help tremendously in our day and age ...

My influences :

1) John Donne - My favorite, most of his pieces reflect a cynical worldview, but the imagery strikes chords to my heart. My favorite poem in the past 10 years has been his piece entitled “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning” and another one I truly enjoy would be “On the progress of the Soul...”

2) Lord George Gordon Byron - Writer of Don Juan ... master of emotion, was a seer of beauty. I was completely enamored with his work on the piece entitled “Love’s Last Adieu”. This was the poem that influenced an old poem of mine entitled, “Garden of Delight” that I know not if I will repost it here . Other great works, “The First Kiss of Love” that helped influence the writing of “The Wake of Love” and the other that I truly adore, “To Thyrza: And Thou Art Dead, As Young And Fair”.

3) William Shakespeare - I absolutely don’t need to write much about this man ... his writings have always taken my mind into another, imaginative world. His sonnets are second to none, but I believe it is his plays that took my heart to his works ... Macbeth and Hamlet are two of the best pieces of art that I have ever read. Romeo and Juliet and Julius Caesar are enthralling as well. I believe that his play Titus Andronicus is quite underrated ... it is a great piece of work and whenever you have a chance, dear reader, read it. Of course, there are others ... A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Much Ado About Nothing are golden as well, but not nearly as good as his tragedies ...

4) John Keats - I’ve read many accounts that this was the man that began the Romantic movement and so I've been studying up on him for an English class in my senior year five years ago. I was so enthralled and taken by his works that I can remember rereading and rereading his works over and over again. If there was a poet second to Shakespeare when it comes to Sonnets, it would be this man. His best, in my view would have to be “When I have Fears That I May Cease To Be”. One of my favorite epic (due to its length and style) poems to read once a year would have to be his “Endymion: Book I - IV”. That is a visceral piece of poetry that would just leave you amazed by the grandeur of beauty and spellbind you with emotion.

5) John Milton - His Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained works mildly influenced my darker pieces. Mostly those from 4-6 years ago, along with Edgar Allan Poe. Wonderful poet, indeed.

6) Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - His philosophies are a part of my life, his pieces are just as beautifully etched as the others before him. A fine read and a masterpiece in itself would have to be his piece entitled “Faust”, a tragedy .... “My Goddess” is also a lovely piece.

7) Edgar Allan Poe - Like Milton, his dark sense and tone helped influence and polish my poetry from my high school years. I fell for many of his writings, mostly The Raven, Annabel Lee, A Dream within a Dream and Lenore. Though I love his poetry, I feel as if I enjoy his short stories even more. The Cask of Amontillado, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Black Cat, Masque of the Red Death, The Pit and the Pendulum and my all time favorite, The Tell-Tale Heart. Most of my short stories have the same sense of macabre in them.

8) Robert Herrick - “To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time”

Gather ye rose-buds while ye may,
Old time is still a flying:
And this same flower that smiles today,
Tomorrow will be dying

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he’s a getting;
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he’s to setting.

That age is best, which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times, still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time;
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may forever tarry.

Carpe Diem, indeed! This piece helped establish that philosophy within my life. The most influential poet in my personal growth.

9) Robert Browning - Lover of arts ... Out of all the poets in history, my personality fits with him the most. My favorite pieces of his are “A Pretty Woman”, “Another Way of Love”, “Mesmerism”, “Women and Roses” and “O’ Lyric Love”.

10) William Blake - One of the greatest poets in history. “A Poison Tree” Helped me with friendship issues as well as stress issues that I am at conflict and or were at conflict with. “Love’s Secret” helped me not rush with the issue of Love ... it comes when it desires to come in life, if you rush through it, the other might depart due to coming on too strong as I’ve done in relationships when I was young.

Each and everyone of these poets have helped flourish my heart, mind and soul throughout the years ... They deserve all the respect and love in the world within this realm of literature.

Hobbies: Writing, reading, video games, listening to music, bothering my cohorts and friends, singing, going to concerts, playing poker with chips worth invisible money!! w00p w00p! ....watching new movies or the ones in my collection, collecting swords/daggers, collecting movies, poetry, driving around town with the sunroof open! w00p! I love my Toyota Avalon! play pool, bowling, going to the gun range, practicing my sword skills (we still have to duel Chris!), hanging out with the family.

Some of my favorite quotes:

“The Secret is the answer to all that has been, all that is, and all that will ever be.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

“ ... We all work with one power, one Law ... it’s attraction, The Secret is the Law of Attraction. Everything that‘s coming into your life you have attracted to your life and it‘s attracted to you by the images of your mind ... whatever is going on in your mind, you are attracting to you. Why do you think 1% of the population earns around 96% of the money that’s being earned? They understand the secret.” - Bob Proctor

“You become what you think about most, but you also attract what you think about most.” -John Assaraf

“Thoughts become things.” - Mike Dooley

“The Law of attraction responds to your thoughts ... good, bad ... whatever it is that dominates your mind and your feelings is what will be manifested into your life.”

“Now just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean you should reject it ... you don’t understand electricity probably but yet you enjoy the benefits of it ... do you know how it works, I don’t know how it works, but I do know this .... you can cook a man’s dinner with electricity and you can also cook the man.” - Bob Proctor

“Whatever you’re thinking and feeling today is creating your future.”

“You create your own universe as you go along.” - Winston Churchill

“Take the first step in faith, you don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“In order to change your circumstances, you must first change the way you think ... think positively and you will attract and manifest positive people and positive circumstances ... think negatively, you will attract and manifest negative people and negative circumstances.”

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought.” - Buddha

“When you visualize then you materialize.”

“What this power is I cannot say, all I know is that it exists.” - Alexander Graham Bell

“The ‘Hows’ are the domain of the universe.”

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” - Albert Einstein

“Decide what you want ... believe you can have it, believe you deserve it, believe it’s possible for you. Then close your eyes everyday for several minutes and visualize having what you want and feeling the feelings of already having it. Come out of that and focus on what you’re grateful for already ... then go out in your day and release it and trust that the universe (God) will figure out how to manifest it.” - Jack Canfield

“Whatever the mind of man can conceive, it can achieve.” - W. Clement Stone

“Happier thoughts essentially lead to a happier biochemistry, a happier, healthier body. Negative thoughts, stress, seriously degrade the body and the functioning of the brain ... because it is our thoughts and emotions that are continuously reassembling, reorganizing, recreating our body.” - Dr. John Hagelin

“Man becomes what he thinks about.”

“What you resist, persists.” - Carl Young

“When the voice and the vision on the inside become more profound and more clear and loud than the opinions on the outside, then you’ve mastered your life.” - Dr. John Demartini

“All power is from within and is therefore under our own control.” - Robert Collier

“Whether you think you can or you can’t either way you are right.” - Henry Ford

“Inner happiness is the fuel for success.”

“Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls.” - Joseph Campbell

Might add more later, might not but now, I bid you adieu dear poet.

What did I ever do to deserve....a snapple?!
Somebody tell me: If something is broken but nobody knows it then is it really broken? If a deaf guy farts and no one is there to hear it then is there a noise? Trick question! God is everywhere! God will hear that fart! Hahaha! I know I'm insane but embrace it or suffer my wrath of endless hugs and bad jokes!
