When an organism becomes aware that it is going to die, its last instinctive impulse is to preserve its species, to perform and act of procreation to compensate for its death. In the animal kingdom this is simple: mate as much as possible, as often as possible. For humans, it is not so simple. The minute we are born, we are dying, and we are well aware of it. This fact dawns upon each person on a wholly different level, but the effect is universal: fear. Why? Because we want more than just to mate. We want more than just to be. We want to experience. So we do the only thing we can do…we live. We live and along the way, we experience the world around us.
That is what I try to capture in my writing, the here, the now, and the unguarded instinct of my experience. Some pieces are short, some are long. Some capture brief, violent bursts of energy while others are products of careful consideration and soulful reflection. Some make sense, some don’t. No matter the piece or the purpose, each is a snap shot of experience, every word charged with meaning and affection. I ask that they each be given their due. Let them live and die, here and now, for what they are and what they are not.

Fear not my dearest friend,
This journey is like all mortal life…
It ends -
-
Acknowledgement of another’s emotions
And needs and wants and their very existence
Impairs my ability to not care -
Roll’em up and burn’em down!
Give’em shots, all around!
