Being an animated oxymoron isn't easy.
Being older (careful!) is even harder
(That's me in contemplative mode at Salamis, by the way)
As you can see I sit (that's SIT) in many places! lol

First Lessons In Living
by Steve Turner
(check oldpoetry for more)

These are your first lessons in living.
To begin we drag you head-first from your shelter
away from your food, from your warmth.
We cut you apart from your only known friend.
We take you and beat you until strange gases
rush your lungs and pain jerks your frame.
These are your first lessons in living.
They will stand you in good stead.

Song lyric of the Month

The Temptations

Ball of Confusion (That's What the World is Today)

1, 2... 1, 2, 3, 4,
People moving out, people moving in.
Why?, because of the color of their skin.
Run, run, run but you sure can't hide.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
Vote for me and I'll set you free.
Rap on, brother, rap on.

Well, the only person talking about love thy brother
is the...(preacher.)
And it seems nobody's interested in learning
but the...(teacher.)

Segregation, determination, demonstration, integration, Aggravation, humiliation, obligation to our nation.
Ball of confusion. Oh yeah, that's what the world is today. Woo, hey, hey.

The sale of pills are at an all time high.
Young folks walking round with their heads in the sky.
The cities ablaze in the summer time.
And oh, the beat goes on.

Evolution, revolution, gun control, sound of the soul.
Too many rockets to the moon,
kids growing up too soon.
Politicians say more taxes will solve everything.
And the band played on.

So, round and around and around we go.
Where the world's headed, nobody knows.

Oh, great GoogaMooga, can't you hear me talking to you.
Just a ball of confusion.
Oh yeah, that's what the world is today.

Fear in the air, tension everywhere.
Unemployment rising fast,
the Beatles new record's a gas.
And the only safe place to live is on an Indian reservation.
And the band played on.

Eve of destruction, tax deduction, city inspectors, bill collectors,
Mod clothes in demand, population out of hand, suicide, too many bills,
Hippies moving to the hills. People all over the world are shouting, 'End the war.'

And the band played on.

Ball of confusion (that's what the world is today)
Ball of confusion (that's what the world is today)
Ball of confusion (that's what the world is today)

Let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya.
Sayin'... ball of confusion.

I like honesty, forebearance, originality and wit
Please don't be pretentious and talk to me like shit
I like to tell it like it is, or at least of what I thinks
It ain't the only reality if I say your prose it stinks

I really love good grammar, lovely spelling and a plot
Please don't make me think too hard, you misbegotten sot
I have a fondness for the cheeky, like my friend Blondeoverblue
She takes savage criticism and damn me she can give it all back too
JennyLee's a rhymer with some lovely nonsense silly rhyme
A christian heart with give in it, I read her all the time

I like a bit of give and take, some pointed repartee
If you're a gutless Prima Donna, you're no friend to me
I'm sorry I can't mention every one of you by name
But you are so many and I need time to words proclaim

I am contrary, cantankerous, harsh and hard to please
I hope my honeyed words of spite don't bring you to your knees
Our fragile tenure in this world is fraught with ups and downs
So don't let pointed sarcasm from me mar your world with frowns

I am what I am, deal with it.

See you on the boards fellow-poet.
I may absolutely hate your work and think you are the devil incarnate, but still, I salute you as a fellow trier, if not a fellow poet. It takes guts to hang out your soul for others to pick at. Good luck and keep writing, even if I say don't bother! lol (It's only one viewpoint after all)
