Predominant influence: Arabi, Rumi, Niffari, Eckhart, Toaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, St Thomas, Merton and others...

For me they are all names of the same One True Friend.

I will never confess to being religious, I am simply a lover of the Truth.

Welcome
A professional artist by trade, my command of literacy is modest, yet 'poetry' I consider a great friend.
Enabling expressions from the heart, more essential I feel, than endless sentences I used to write, or not bother to.

I find this engagement very contemplative and with 'given' few words, tend to let poems write themselves, my business more to keep out of the way than much else. I then go back to free them from my interference's as far as possible. That's how I see it.

Ideally- True meaning, ever in potential and 'air-borne', merely settling over provided page, to leave its marks. What joyful interaction when it's happening, inspiration open to us all, when we stand aside from ourselves a little, or more.
I think novice standing, helps me to not take possession as I would, with my more clumsy words. Finding my heart ever pregnant with treasure which aches to be known, given half chance and receiving invitation, it leaps forward.

Loosely I'd categorise my 'writes' in two types: One of this earthly world, and one which also embraces it, its 'mother' the intangible world of spiritual meaning. Not as an appealing notion of escapism, but as an inescapable fact of all being.

I believe we all have an eye which sees this, It's wakened sometimes fleetingly, sometimes more. Vision, common in potential to us all, but which often seems to lack a recognised context, in which to be housed and lived with, in order to become established.

The most embracing context it seems is that of love and beauty, or lover and beloved, the eye which sees this, seeing it in all things universally.
How ever this idea meets you, it would be ridiculous to think, it was my idea. It has been present in almost every established monotheistic tradition or religion, globally for many, many life times. In some more apparent than others, but always there to be found in the realms of deeper sentiment and insight.
For me this is something beyond 'religion', transcending our separations and bias in all ways, and is a real invitation to Freedom. Including freedom from the subjective and conjectured sub-reality, having it seems much face in the world, to hopefully be turned towards that which is better.

Perhaps you will understand my need for poetry!

 The Theophany of Perfection

By Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi

Known as the greatest mystical genius of the Arabs, Ibn ‘Arabi (1165-1240) was born in Murcia in south-eastern Spain, at a time of the last great flowering of Andalusian Moorish culture. From the earliest age he showed evidence of an extraordinary visionary capacity, and while still a teenager, had a seminal vision of the three major prophets of the West, Jesus, Moses and Muhammad. He travelled widely in North Africa and the Middle East and eventually settled in Damascus for the last 20 years of his life.
His students referred to him simply as ‘The greatest spiritual Master’, a title which reflects his profound and detailed explanation of the Unity of Existence.

The Poem:

Listen, O dearly beloved!
I am the reality of the world, the centre of the circumference,
I am the parts and the whole.
I am the will established between Heaven and Earth,
I have created perception in you only in order to be the object of My Perception.

If then you perceive Me, you perceive yourself.
But you cannot perceive Me through yourself.
It is through My Eyes that you see Me and see yourself,
Through your eyes you cannot see Me.

Dearly beloved!
I have called you so often and you have not heard Me.
I have shown Myself to you so often and you have not seen Me.
I have made Myself fragrance so often, and you have not smelled Me,
Savorous food, and you have not tasted Me.
Why can you not reach Me through the object you touch
Or breathe Me through sweet perfumes?
Why do you not see Me?  Why do you not hear Me?
Why? Why? Why?

For you My delights surpass all other delights,
And the pleasure I procure you surpasses all other pleasures.
For you I am preferable to all other good things,
I am Beauty, I am Grace.

Love Me, love Me alone.
Love yourself in Me, in Me alone.
Attach yourself to Me,
No one is more inward than I.
Others love you for their own sakes,
I love you for yourself.
And you, you flee from Me.

Dearly beloved!
You cannot treat Me fairly,
For if you approach Me,
It is because I have approached you.

I am nearer to you than yourself,
Than your soul, than your breath.
Who among creatures
Would treat you as I do?
I am jealous of you, over you,
I want you to belong to no other,
Not even to yourself.
Be Mine, be for Me as you are in Me,
Though you are not even aware of it.

Dearly beloved!
Let us go toward Union.
And if we find the road
That leads to separation,
We will destroy separation.
Let us go hand in hand.
Let us enter the presence of Truth.
Let It be our judge
And imprint Its seal upon our union
For ever.
