My name is Thomas Perdue. I first became interested in literature by reading the Harry Potter books around the time I was thirteen. I started writing some poetry when I was sixteen; at first, my attempts were very crude in style, I knew practically nothing about imagery and metaphor, but my art progressively grew and matured with time. I have now been writing for five and a half years. It is my hope that I may further better my craft here on this site. Any critiques or comments anyone may have on my work will be much appreciated.
I enjoy deep symbolism, what I write can mean many things to many people. I want to take you on a journey into your own subconscious thoughts, I want to help you find yourself. But my writing is mine, so everything in it deeply expresses something that is uniquely me.
I like to write about death and the unknown, the human spirit is no where found more alive than in graveyards.
I draw my inspiration from many sources: books, movies, poetry, song lyrics, etc...
My life is my spirituality. I don't always know what I believe or why, but I find my beliefs through my life. I believe that the human mind is capable of great things, many of which are hidden from our conscious understandings. It is my belief that everything that is possible to be known is already known in the deepest reaches of our mind, in our subconscious dwellings: Universal Knowledge. It is only by connecting with The Universal Mind that we are able to unlock the true potential of ourselves.
I like to think that I write from the subconscious, from a place of the Infinite, of the Universal.
Here are some quotes that I like:
To obey - just like that - for the sake of obeying, without questioning... that's something only people like you can do, Captain.
- From the movie "Pan's Labyrinth"
If my poetry aims to achieve anything, it's to deliver people from the limited ways in which they see and feel.
- Jim Morrison
You could say it's an accident that I was ideally suited for the work I am doing. It's the feeling of a bow string being pulled back for twenty-two years and suddenly being let go. . . . I've always been attracted to ideas that were about revolt against authority. When you make your peace with authority, you become an authority. I like ideas about the breaking away or overthrowing of established order. I am interested in anything about revolt, disorder, chaos, especially activity which seems to have no meaning. It seems to me to be the road toward freedom - external revolt is a way of bringing about internal freedom. Rather than starting inside, I start outside - reach the mental through the physical. But the main thing is that we are the Doors. We are from the West. The world we suggest should be of a new, wild West, a sensuous, evil world, strange and haunting. The path of the Sun, you know.
- Jim Morrison
People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that's bull crap. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they're afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they're wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It's all in how you carry it. That's what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you're letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain.
- Jim Morrison
Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.
- Rumi
Good thoughts will produce good actions and bad thoughts will produce bad actions. Hatred does not cease by hatred at any time; hatred ceases by love.
- Buddha
Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle,
and the life of the candle will not be shortened.
Happiness never decreases by being shared.
- Buddha
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.
- Buddha
The one who says heaven can only be experienced after you die has removed it and made it difficult to experience its qualities.
- Dr. Wilson Van Dusen
Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.
- Albert Einstein
Killing under the cloak of war is no different than murder.
- Albert Einstein
The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.
- Albert Einstein
That which is now called the Christian religion existed among the ancients, and there was never a time when it did not exist, from the planting of the human race until Christ came in the flesh. At that time the true religion that already existed began to be called Christianity.
- Saint Augustine
Do you see that city? Right now in that city there are old people dying and there are babies being born. There are people in the peak of health working out at the gym and people lying sick in hospital beds. There are people losing their jobs and people starting a new jobs. There are couples who are getting divorces and couples who are conceiving children. There are rich people living in big houses and homeless people living under bridges. There are Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and Jews. There are blacks, whites, Asians, Indians, Mexicans, and so on. Some people are speaking English; some are speaking Spanish; some are speaking other languages. There is all that joy and sorrow, all those contrasts. And yet, from our perspective up here on the mountain, we see only a single, beautiful city. . . . That is how God sees the entire world.
- Rev. Frank Rose (As quoted in a sermon by Rev. Lee Woofenden)
