TheBardShow poetry

The full spectrum of my writing runs the gamut from free-form beat poetry to extremely structured works in the classical romantic vein.  The themes are typified by Angst, Lonliness, Regret, Societal Criticism, Celtic Themes and Traditional Ballads.

In my life, I've lived the lives of ten men, adopting different personas, different outlooks every few years.  Indeed, the change from when I entered high-school up till now, (as I draw near the finish of my secondary education) is almost unbelievable.  In that time, I have travelled widely, written, fornicated promiscuously, purchased and sold almost every narcotic substance known to man, indulged in months of wanton drug and alcohol abuse, commited acts of crime, been processed through the judicial system, spat out the anus of society and right back into my parent's home, into university level grade 12 courses, into a world of extracurriculars and intellectual refinement.  From Innocence to Experience... William Blake was a genius.

It is from a mixture of his writing, and the writing of Allen Ginsberg that I derive my poetic styles, themes and ideas.  For me there is nothing more inspirational than lying down in a field, with a copy of 'Howl' by Ginsber, a pack of cigarettes, a fresh cold beer and a pad of paper and just indulging wholeheartedly in the act of creation.  Indeed, most of my most powerful works have been born in just this manner.

oi no... that's not what it's about at all... I call myself TheBard as a shakespeare reference yes, but also because I am a lover of Bardic culture in general and I am a real-life practicing Bard... I also play bards in D&D... so suffice it to say, that is how I defend my claim to being the Bard.

Hi, I'd just like to say, I really enjoy reading your poetry, you DO have talent, but don't you think it a tad ostentatious to be calling yourself 'The Bard'? I don't mean to offend, like I said, I'm a fan of your work, but to compare yourself with shakespeare is a little pompous!

G'day and welcome to Allpoetry. My name's Ravenlord, and I thought that I'd swing by and tell you a little about the site. We all have a lot of fun here, and hopefully you'll find your time at AP as enjoyable as I do.

My first word of advice would be to look at the different kinds of membership. You've been given a four day trial Preferred Membership- which is a pretty sweet package. You can post your picture, use custom backgrounds etc. After the four days you'll still be able to post poetry and use the site, so don't stress about that.

If you need a hand you can contact a Moderator (their name will be highlighted blue) or a Greeter (there names are highlighted green). Just to clear things up, a member in yellow is someone on your favourites list.

Every month Allpoetry.com runs a poetry challenge for new members to join. Click the 'Contests' tab and look for a challenged headed 'New Members Only'. You can win some points here, and points are great to promote your poetry or run your own contests. The November contest link is:

In general for each poem you post, it's good to critique at least four other poems. The more active you are with commenting on others' work, the more comments you'll get in return. It's a love/love relationship really.

This site isn't all about poetry though. You can also check out StoryWrite, which, as its name suggests is all about stories. Oldpoetry has a lot of classic poems, and it's always worth a look. There's also All Philosophy, so go by there if you feel like joining one of the discussions. I can personally vouch for Storywrite and Oldpoetry, they're both awesome facets of the site, but I've yet to visit All Philosphy for a great amount of time.

If you want your work read, but no one seems to be swinging by- the two options are to use the Shameless Promotion section, or to spend some points to Feature your work. I feature a lot of my stuff, and it's a good way to get your works read. It's not looked on nicely if you promote in the Chatter Box, and a moderator or greeter will probably jump on you if you do it. I found that out the hard way.

Allpoetry.com is an amazing site. There are great people here, not to mention the huge number of great poets. Welcome to the site, and I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have. If you need anything, even just an opinion on your latest write or a chat- don't hesitate to IM me.

If you have any questions and can't find one of us, check out the following links:
