The HarlequinShow poetry

Come in! Sit down! Can I get you a cup of coffee? Biscuit? Sandwich? Cake? Chocolate bread? OK then. Hows about a poem? Great! Then just scroll down, my friend...

Quote of the Day: "She is everything I need that I never knew I wanted //
She is everything I want that I never knew I needed"

“And you, liar, teller of tall tails:
you trample all the Lord’s commandments underfoot,
you murder, steal, commit adultery,
and afterward break into tears,
beat your breast,
take down your guitar and turn the sin into a song.
Shrewd devil,
you know very well that God pardons singers no matter what they do,
because he can simply die for a song...”

From The Last Temptation of Christ,
By Nikos Kaztantzakis

"Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality."
- T.S. Eliot

A friend of mine asked me why I put my poetry up for critiquing on Allpoetry, and I told her that it was because you get almost an unbiased judgement and someone's true opinion of your work. You guys don't really know me as a person, and probably never will (which is probably a blessing!) but the fact remains that you (I hope) have read me through my poetry, and that's the side I want to show. Poetry to me is almost like a confession for my heart, and as a great singer wrote:
"My heart knows me better than I know myself, So I'm gonna let it do all the talking..."
Interestingly enough, my head and my heart are pretty entwined. I think about things a great deal, perhaps too much, and sometimes I find it very hard to separate matters of the head and the heart. (I blame my wonderful Simian line! - feel free to ask if you're interested) Even so, sometimes it's how some of my best poems occur! Over-analysis is a very strong trait in me, and I can be a bit of a perfectionist at times Sometimes this overflows into my critiquing of other people's work, and so you may well find me picking your poetry apart and sounding a bit too focused on detail. But hey, sometimes detail can make all the difference!
You can show your loved ones a poem and they'll tell you how great it is (even if it's awful!), but when I show you guys a poem I know that what I get back is something a little more honest. So thank you for your comments and your honesty, I hope I can return the favour...

With much love,
