And This Is Me ....

… The Poet
... & The Poetry…
I am a writer living in Plymouth, England, UK. I have been writing since childhood, first inspired by my late grandfather, then by my first secondary-level English tutor, Alan M Kent (himself a published and accomplished author, poet, editor and scholar).
Although I occasionally write form poetry, much of my work is written in the manner of contemporary free-verse ~ with or without rhyme. I work best with alliteration, imagery and resonance, in a style that is my own, and one I am keen to continue developing through experimentation, learning, experience and growth! Not all of my work is self-published here on Allpoetry, not all of it on the internet. Nor do I keep my works online indefinitely, preferring to refresh my archives every now and then, sometimes as the seasons shift! In addition to poetry, I also work with scripts and fantasy-fiction, as well as theatrical community project planning.

Known and published poets who have influenced and/or inspired me over time, through my discovery of their works, include: ~ Roma Ryan, JRR Tolkien, Pablo Neruda and Carol Ann Duffy, Too, there are numerous poets to be found here on allpoetry.com, whose words and works I can whole-heartedly endorse. They include Night Hope, Nicolette, Poet2Angels, Mark Rickerby, Danny Beatty, Allyce May, and Ten Thousand Cicadas, to name just a few, Samples of their work can be found in my Anthology-List of other poets' works, "Their Writing ... My Reverence".

In the time when I am not writing, I work in the Arts for a developing community theatre company called KADCAT ~ Keyham And Devonport Community Amateur Theatre. I currently serve as an Assistant Director for annual pantomimes and revue performances, which are staged in a local 300-seat theatre, and as a Community Project Co-ordinator, networking the company with community amenities and events that take place throughout the year. I also co-teach drama workshops for adults with physical and learning difficulties one afternoon per week, which is highly rewarding all-round! As ill-health prevents my full time employment, I work in these roles on a voluntary basis, and encourage anyone else in a similar situation (or merely who are out of work) to explore Arts projects and organisations locally, for the good that we creative individuals with time on our hands can do for our communities - or even farther afield - and no less for the good it can offer us as individuals in return!

While online reading time is often limited, I aim to provide the most insightful, interesting and considered critiques within my capability, when viewing the works people post on this site. At times, my critiques may highlight errors/inconsistencies and typos, as well as referring to and exploring the subject matter of the poem I am reviewing, though if it appears the poem has simply been posted with no proof-reading or care taken by the poet in question, I do not feel so inclined to make the effort, when the postee clearly has not either! I am of the strict belief that to be regarded as a poet and a wordsmith, the basic care and pride in one's work should be paramount, even before the poem is uploaded to the internet. I am always happy to explain or discuss the critiques I write for people, if contacted in a civil manner, and aspire to provide feedback which is helpful, useful, encouraging and constructive, for the recipient. I believe we should share the gifts, skills, knowledge and wisdom we have, to assist others in their creative endeavours while doing our own journeys simultaneously.
Hoping you enjoy your visit !
Kindest regards,

CollegeQueer : Hi on November 10You give very good critique and constructive criticism. I was wondering if you could read my new piece, Revenge and Vino Blanco. I'm trying to get people's opinion on it.

You, quite obviously, are a masterfully talented individual.
I can see I will learn a lot from these pages you create, so I imagine I will return time and again, as I do so Love to learn.....
Beautiful picture of your Grandfather. I wasn't very long on the page when I found a quote to add to my page:
"Life is the river which runs to the Poet's Sea"
Never, EVER heard it more perfectly said. Your quote?
Love & Blessings,

Dael Gabriel : You truly have a gift on June 8I love the way your profile reflects the thoughtful and reflective side of your personality. As I have said before I feel you to be a very accomplished poet, and having read some of you other work, feel your calling is a true one and not just a hobby or sideline. Keep the work coming, and let me know how the projects are coming along
I'd be very interested! -
